After Pastor AndrewBrunson, who was detained in Turkey for more than two years,finished a prayer in the Oval Office for the president whose administration hadbrought him home, Donald Trump was curious about just one thing.

The pastor’s detainment hadcreated a huge rift betweenthe two NATO allies. Trump had placed sanctionson two high-ranking Turkish officials and tariffson Ankara’s steel and aluminum sectors because the country wouldn’t releaseBrunson.

Brunson’s release marks ahuge diplomatic victory for Trump, who celebrated his return and noted hisresilience in the aftermath of the arrest.

“I really want to thank theadministration,” Brunson said. “You really fought for us, unusually so. Fromthe time you took office, I know that you’ve been engaged.”
