In the traditional sense of 3rd world (unalignedwith the USA nor USSR) world. Actually, the traditional definition is out ofdate since the collapse of the USSR (but China was technically 3rd world inmuch of the 60s and much of the 70s).

传统意义上的第三世界国家指的是无法与美国或者苏联对齐的国家。实际上，自苏联解体以来这个传统定义已经过时了（中国在六七十年代的时候理论上确实是第三世界国家）。



However, local officials stripped Ms. Yang ofwelfare benefits two years ago because she did not meet the official standardfor poverty, which in China applies to people earning less than $350 per year,reduced each member’s money to USD 0.25 per day. It was too hard to the familyto survive.

The term is outdated. Parts of China are lessdeveloped economically, but by and large it is a middle-income country.

Second World - the communist countries
Third world - none of the above
China is somewhat split between 1 and 2 so clearlyno 3.
