But now tourists have been indefinitely blocked from visiting the Tibetan camp (the Nepalese camp remains open).

Only people with climbing permits will be allowed to ascend to the Tibetan base camp, at an altitude of 17,000 feet.

The decision, officially announced last month, came to public attention in the past couple of days.

Littering on Everest is a significant issue, both on the base camps and higher up the mountain itself. In recent years both Nepal and China have implemented measures to try to force climbers to bring their waste down with them, and not leave it on the mountain.

It said a task force of 200 people would be formed to clear the remaining garbage.

According to the CMA, more than 20,000 people from over 40 countries have climbed the mountain from the Tibet side in the past eight years.

While the dramatic growth in tourism has stimulated the local economy, it has also led to increased degradation of the area’s fragile ecology and cultural traditions, Unesco has said.

Im blown away that this is required. People suck if this requires a legal statute. However, I would have assumed that it was always required. Littering is illegal in most places。

This is so sad. You'd think people who are"enjoying"nature would respect it more and clean up after themselves。
