I know Americans often glorify their hand in WWII. How much did we really help?

There was a saying that the war was won with British brains American steel and Soviet blood. This is a generalization of course but not far from the truth.
The British showed inspiring courage in standing alone against the Axis. Their fighting spirit and a great leader (Churchill) kept them in the fight. But they could not have defeated Germany alone. British advances in radar code breaking false information dummy armies fake paratroopers blow up tanks and trucks etc. confused and helped to defeat the Germans.
Long story short all three Allies were necessary and all played a crucial role in destroying Nazi Germany.

It's a bit of an exaggeration to say that the US defeated Japan nearly single-handedly. The Chinese contribution was significant and the British contribution in the Pacific theatre was also quite significant. Australia provided much of the logistics support.
Yes the US had by far the largest navy (although British carriers and other vessels were present) but in the land war China India and Britain provided substantial resources.
The Soviets started out as the bad guys.
The invasion and conquest of Poland was something done by the Nazis and the Soviets working together. The Soviets also conducted an unprovoked invasion of Finland in the Winter War. They were conquerors just like the Nazis. (Well they weren’t sending Jews to death camps by the millions so there is that.)
The USA was the main force that defeated the Japanese.
The initial forays of the Japanese into the Soviet Far East were unsuccessful. However had they been unopposed by the Americans the Japanese very well could have redoubled their efforts there forcing the Soviets to divert crucial resources away from the fight with Nazi Germany. If things had been just a little different the Soviets could have lost at Stalingrad and that would have been disastrous.
I don’t care how fanatic your soldiers are. Without basic resources at some point they lose their ability to fight.
Am I saying that the American contribution to the war against the Nazis was greater than the Soviet contribution? No. But without American support the Soviet contribution simply could not have been as great as it was. In fact the best possible scenario for them probably would have been a stalemate somewhere in Eastern Europe.
EDIT: Some commenters have suggested that I have not said enough about the British contribution to the war. However that is extraneous to the question. I fully recognize the great extent to which the British and the Commonwealths contributed to the victory of the Allies. My answer talks about the USA because that is what the question is about and I also talk about the USSR because people sometimes suggest that the Soviets basically beat the Nazis alone. No one says that about the British.

True Nazi Germany was more of an ally at the time and Stalin really didn’t want powerful and smart military officals

No I don’t see how you can really know that. It’s mostly just something European war and history buffs say to sniff at Americans.
I’ve had people toss this nationalist slur into conversations for several years at this point and when you challenge them on it they get snippy and throw out more insults indicating that its just bigotry. They can’t back up this claim with any particular evidence. It’s just something they believe from hearing it repeated constantly over the years.
4.The United States was secretly run by bankers and industrialists who only entered the war for profit (a classic conspiracy theory)
4.美国是由银行家和实业家秘密统治的,他们参加战争只是为了利益(典型的阴谋论论调);
5.The United States “profiteered” during the war (most people who say this can’t explain what the term means. It just sounds nasty)
5.美国在战争中“牟取暴利”(大多数这样说的人无法解释为何口出此言。就是听起来很卑鄙);
6.The United States charged Great Britain for weapons (the United States government had no authority to sell weapons to a foreign power. American companies of course charged for their products. Just like British companies and Canadian companies)
6.美国向英国收取武器费用(美国政府无权向外国势力出售武器。而美国公司自然可以对产品进行收费。就像英国公司和加拿大公司一样);
7.The United States cheated Britain on the famous bases for destroyers deal because the destroyers were junk (the ships given to Britain were being activated for American use; they were all the American navy had to serve as convoy escorts)
7.美国在着名的《驱逐舰换基地》协议中欺骗了英国,因为该驱逐舰是不能用的废物(送给英国的船只被激活供美国使用;必须用美国海军作为护卫队);
13.The United States didn’t aid Britain after the war (it did)
13.战后美国再没援助英国(美国援助了);
14.The United States didn’t give Britain a share of the Marshall Plan (Britain was the largest recipient of Marshall Plan aid.)
14.美国没让英国参与进马歇尔计划(欧洲复兴计划)(英国当时是马歇尔计划最大的受惠国);
15.The Soviet unx won World War II and everyone else just helped out (It was a WORLD WAR. The valiant Russian army killed 80% of the German army on its limited front. The Western allies carried the load against the rest of the Axis war machine and supplied the Red Army at the same time. And you can’t really say that you won the war by yourself if you were enthusiastically supporting the other side for the first year and a half)
15.苏联赢得了第二次世界大战,而其他所有国家只是在搭手帮忙而已(注意,这可是一场世界大战啊。英勇的俄国军队在有限的战线上杀死了80%的德军。西方盟国承担了反对轴心国战争机器其余部分的斗争,同时向红军提供补给。苏联你前一年半的时间里可是热情地支持敌方[纳粹德国]啊,你不能说你就靠自己赢得了这场战争);
There are a few more. I cannot say too much about Americans over-claiming their role in the war since you don’t get people making serious claims like that. Just the occasional obnoxious comment traded back and forth with everyone else’s obnoxious comments.
