Just to be precise the unelected regime in Beijing is a villain particularly for mainland Chinese as they're the only unfortunate souls which the regime has any real power to harm - and it has with 30 million dead and counting and massive censorship police-run mental wards for dissidents etc.

Thank you for a clear explication of these myths. The China haters will not be pleased but the pro-China folks will not exactly be vindicated since Bonnie Glaser remains one of the most hard headed analysts of Chinese security policy which is often self-defeating and overwrought.
