"Even though I voted to leave this morning I woke up and I just — the reality did actually hit me" one woman told the news channel ITV News. "If I'd had the opportunity to vote again it would be to stay."

This Condescending and patronising article is beneath you Washington Post. You have shown an utter lack of class and integrity in posting such drivel. Your sample must have been tiny and limited to a totally unrepresentative number of commenters. Earlier comments brought up a few other pertinent points such as how did the reporter know the Googlers were frantic and that the older generation they were blaming were probably far better informed about the EU than they were given credit for.

You have caught WaPo committing a sin that I regularly chastise commenters for. That is offering only the "numerator" of a particular argument without its "denominator" context.

I thought The Washington Post was a serious newspaper until I read this patronizing article. Bearing in mind that the EU related stories appear in the UK media on a daily basis the vast majority of British people are well aware what the EU is. The UK has voted to leave this failed socialist project and there are signs that the voters in The Netherlands Finland Denmark and even France have woken up to the fact that there is a world outside the EU.

The short term benefits of the pound's collapse are going to be just that short term then what? The Brits have burned down their own house because they were frustrated and frightened by real and imagined threats and their seeming inability to protect themselves and by doing so they have forsaken their future as a country that once mattered and retreated into a small place with a moat around it with an equally small voice that no one will hear much less listen to.

The leftist media doing everything they can to spin this falsely. You've already told us it was 'old people' who voted to leave. I guarantee those old people weren't up at 1 in the morning searching google. This was almost certainly the younger generation low info voters who didn't expect it to happen and probably voted remain without knowing what it would actually mean to vote leave. Searches on "what happens if we leave the EU" had more than tripled because a lot of people weren't expecting it. Again absolutely no evidence these were people who voted to leave. 
If anything this is evidence the young remain voters didn't understand what they were voting for.

There is no data to back that the searches for [What is 'brexit'] came from the registered voters who voted for Brexit. It's more likely that the searches came from people who are either 1) not registered voters or 2) unaware/indifferent to Brexit in the first place and were surprised by all the media buzz and less likely that the searches were from people who took the trouble to the voting stations to vote then later find out what they were voting for from Google.
