GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson says in an interview airing Sunday that he doesn't believe the United States should have a Muslim president because Islam is inconsistent with the Constitution.

"I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation," Carson said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "I absolutely would not agree with that."

The comments came in response to the ongoing controversy over a questioner at a Donald Trump rally who claimed that Muslims in America were a "problem," that President Obama is a secret Muslim, and that there are terrorist training camps in the United States that need to be rooted out.

The wisdom of so publicly excluding an entire religion from the presidency aside, Carson has plenty of people who feel just like he does. A Gallup poll in June showed 38 percent of Americans said they would not support a Muslim candidate for president. The only less-desirable characteristics tested were being an atheist (40 percent) and a socialist (50 percent).

And the GOP is particularly sour on the idea of a Muslim president. While 60 percent overall and 73 percent of Democrats said they could vote for a Muslim, just 45 percent of Republicans said this. Only when it comes to a socialist candidate was there a bigger gap between the two parties.

There have been discussions in recent presidential elections about whether Americans would vote for a Mormon candidate (Mitt Romney), a woman (Hillary Clinton), an African American (Obama) and even a Jewish vice presidential candidate (Joe Lieberman in 2000). All are clearly more acceptable to Americans than would be a Muslim candidate.

I saw a movie about this guy that detailed all the racism he faced. Ironic.

It also depicted an attempted murder, after which he begged God to cure his intemperate nature. Good job, God!

That religious bigots like Ben Carson are among us, is not the problem! That bigots like Carson are supported by Right Wing UN-Americans is a bigger problem. Sometimes Republicans just leaves our Universe!

Never mind the ingrained Wall of Separation of Church & State, Bigots like Carson highlights why that Wall exist. And what's really inconsistent with the U S Constitution, is not an Islamic President, but rather a Religious bigot, A Racial bigot,a Gender bigot,etc....holding that Office!

What's inconsistent with the U.S. Constitution is Right Wing bigotry. In this case, uncle Ben Carson fails to recognized what a "GOOD BOY" for Jim Crow, he has been trained to be.

One can only imagine, when people like Uncle Ben Carson looks in a mirror, what EXACTLY does he see? It appears ...not a Child of God looks back at him. Because (all god's children) are welcomed in God's kingdom: Irregardless of the Bigotry of the various Religious Denominations, against each other; Alas, belief in GOD, and belief in Religions , are not the same thing!

FREEDON FROM RELIGION, is the only way, all of them can be assured equal treatment under the law? Shame on Ben Carson, and his ilk for trying to sanitize his bigotry under the guise of the U S Constitution, The Americans people will decide to what extent religion should play in the life of their elected Leaders. Not Religious Dogma from a "GOOD BOY" schooled in the ways of his Unholy Masters.

The only people trying to apply their religious rules in public policy are Christians. Your fantasies don't seem supported by reality.
