BEIJING (AP) — Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte announced that his country is separating from the U.S. in a speech before a Beijing economic forum on Thursday after handing China a major diplomatic victory agreeing to resume dialogue on their South China Sea territorial dispute following months of acrimony.

I can guess how Duterte's negotiation with China is going to end. China will allow Philippines' fishermen to fish in the disputed area and in return Philippines must concede that the disputed territory belongs to China. China may throw in some economic incentives to Philippines such as investment infrastructure construction etc. Several years down the road when the situation is more favorable China will kick the Philippines fishermen out of the disputed area and it becomes 100% Chinese property.
Duterte clearly does not know how to negotiate. By severing ties with USA he's lost another bargaining chip for his negotiation with China. Duterte excels in butt licking though.

In reality every year China sign deals with VN let said worth 10 billions the country is losing 15-20 billions because VN to accept their #$%$ while VN sending their best product over. They repackage and sell it back to VN with higher price and also sending to other countries and listed as made in other country.
