Transcript(文字记录):
RENEEMONTAGNE, HOST: Britain isgiving China's president thefive- star treatment during a state visit to London. Today, Xi Jinping ddressesParliament and attends a state banquet with the queen, and he will stay at Buckingham Palace. All of which is symbolic of whatsome raditional allies of Britainsee as an overly cozy relationship. Here's NPR's Leila Fadel.

Leila Fadel.

LEILAFADEL, BYLINE: This visit to Britainis worlds apart from President Xi Jinping's tense trip to the United Statesthis September. At the time, resident Obama signaled he was ready to slap China with sanctions over cyberattacks the U.S. blames on Beijing. But in London, both China and the UK say his is the start of a golden era, as Britain curriesfavor for Chinese investments. In east London,Chinese firm ABP is investing more than $2.6 billion dollars to develop ahistoric dockland property.

NEILROBINSON: This is a unique and very special place because we are going totransform Royal Albert Dock into London'snext business district.

FADEL: That's Neil Robinson of ABP.He says the new development will be London'sthird largest business district. It's aimed squarely at Chinese and Asiancompanies. Just a few years ago, relations between Britainand China were under severestrain, but now parts of central London havebeen redecorated to welcome China'spresident.
This is Chinatown. In front of me is a sign welcoming President Xi Jinping to the United Kingdomand above me are endless amounts of red and gold lanterns in honor of hisvisit.
While London'sChinatown is celebrating Xi's presence, so area lot of British businessmen. The UKis China'stop European destination for investment, and new deals are on the horizon. Thisincludes a controversial plan for Chinese investment in a nearly $40 billiondollar nuclear power project. Critics ask whether Britainis risking its national security by giving Chinainfluence in the UK'snuclear industry. Agatha Kratz from the European Council on Foreign Relationssays everyone wants to do business with China. But she says the UK's European partners are jealous of Britain's success and think it's gone too farto court China.

AGATHAKRATZ: Everyone is annoyed but annoyed that maybe the UK is doing so well but also annoyed that the UK is willingto do so much to do so well. And it puts other countries in a difficultsituation.

FADEL:Britain, she says, seems willing to do almost anything to win Chinese favor whileignoring issues like human rights.

KRATZ:The UKhas forgotten completely about that. It just won't speak about it anymore. Andfor countries that have tried for so long to actually keep that on the agenda,it is a bit disappointing.

FADEL:Kratzsays it's hard to have a united European policy toward China when the UK is so busy trying to impress. The West is grappling with how to deal with Chinanow that it's a global powerhouse, says Michel Hockx of the School of Orientaland African Studies. Now since the U.S.has taken a harsher stance with China, the UKis playing a different game.

MICHELHOCKX: The UK realized that they could actually go for a completely novelapproach and present themselves as China's sort of most significantand most trusted Western partner.

FADEL: Chinahas money to invest and consumers to consume, Hockx says, and the UK is trying tocapture both. Leila Fadel, NPR News, London.

Both liberal and conservative voters need to be alarmed at how our, respective, liberal and conservative leaders are cozying up to totalitarian states forshort term socialist and economic gains. China has a billion plus populationthat is economically disenfranchised. We were promised that China woulddemocratize, but they are not. As articles on thelandscapeoftruth.com suggest,the West is putting its citizens’ liberal freedoms at risk as we become ore
dependent upon relationships with totalitarian states. Plus, the onslaught ofeconomic migrants is draining the resources of our schools systems andhealthcare. We need join together and take a stand.

Where are we and the EU headed? The power of money as control was spreadto Europe by the US.So their Labor or Social Democratic parties exist in name only, just as thedemocratic {people rule} party ceased to exist by the time Clinton took charge. He provided the BigBanksters their greatest prize of all, repeal of Glass-Steagall, and thegreatest economic crisis since the Great Depression followed,, just what thatAct was intended to prevent.

Its also their cheap and poorly madeproducts. There was a story on NPR on the BayBridge and its cost including boltsmade from Chinathat were not up to speck.
In this country as well we had all theasbestos in the building materials after Katrina.
Doesn't make sense! but think of the big picture when you need money as itmay cost you more in the long run!

JIM, remember when the same was said about Japanese products? Now theirhigh tech products are right up their with the leaders. China isfollowing the same pattern.

The USA is already virtually owned by Communist China (Capitalist China),sending us junk products from slave camps; who knows how many so-called USAcompanies now owned by Chinese; and we turn our backs to human rights abusesfor the sake of money. So, the UKis going to try to do better with this horrendously murdering red dragon? AsIslam spreads it's nasty hate throughout Europe, the Chinese sleek in like a slimy snake and will devour anything in its path.

KEN; And what is our inglorious corporate state doing by its illegalinterventionism in the Mid East, the world's energy breadbasket? And how manyof those billionaire one-percenters got there using the Chinese "slavelabor" as a tool, that at the expense of US workers?

This is a rather strange move by Britain,ONE BritainTWO Systems. In fact, the USglobal investment banks can start to move out from Londoncity to other big financial centre in Europe and the candidates would beFrankfurt or Dublin.

I suggest the British call the district GNOK GNOH.
