I can’t speak for others — but I’ll go ahead and list maybe ten Chinese apps I use quite frequently.

WeChat 微信 - Because if you don’t have this app in China you can’t live a normal life. I can chat pay for my bills recharge my phone credit hail a cab books flights trains and hotels order movie tickets get food delivered and even make investments with WeChat。
AMap 高德地图 - Convenient for getting around — pretty accurate for mainland China (not sure about other places though)
Tantan 探探 - Chinese version of Tinder

微信----因为你在中国没这个APP的话，就没法过正常的生活。我可以用微信支付账单、给手机充值、打车、订机票、订火车票、订酒店、买电影票、叫外卖，甚至可以用微信投资。
高德地图----四处逛逛的时候很方便----在大陆使用正确率挺高的（不过在别的地方使用准不准就不清楚了）。

Meitu went viral in January. That's probably the only Chinese app familiar to most Americans. Several Facebook friends are still using Meitu results as their profile pictures.

Probably musical.ly - instant music videos — extremely popular app (>100M users) for lip syncing videos especially among teenage girls.

But I don't think many people know it's Chinese — nor do many people other than its target audience know about it at all even though it's one of the biggest social networks (Not being a teenager I mainly know it because they are customers of my wife’s company)

For Americans actually in China WeChat is completely inevitable it replaces half the internet and is the main way to do almost everything in China. Even though probably 2/3 of the features are only available on the Chinese version.

Most Americans do not use any Chinese apps.
I use Weibo and WeChat but that's because I've been to China and am weird that way. Most Americans probably couldn't name a single Chinese app at all.
