Can the US invade mainland China and win the war?
I had an argument over this topic with mybrother so decided to post here. If India allows US to use its border toinfiltrate into mainland China, who will win the war? US or China? Assuming allIndia does is open the border and no nukes are involved.

LOL. Well, you know, between India andChina, there’s this thing called the Himalayas, right? The highest mountainrange in the world, at almost 30,000 feet? Like this?
Most humans have trouble going over thatthing. In fact, most birds have trouble flying over that thing. Cold, blizzard, avalanche. 30% oxygen compared with the sea level. BBC made a documentary aboutthe handful of species who can go over that thing. The Himalayas (BBC) And theChinese on the other side stay up there year-round so they are used to it,while you can’t even breathe. Maybe you want to do the infiltration yourselffirst, to test out something called the Attrition Rate?

Do you know Bernard Montgomery, 1stViscount Montgomery of Alamein ? In short, he's the grand architect of the BritishArmy in WWII. Famous for being the commander-in-chef of the British EighthArmy, the one which stopped German advances in North Africa. His list ofvictories went on with the triumph march into Europe, the thrust toward GermanRhine. Let's hear what that wise man said:
Rule 1, on page 1 of the book of war, is:"Do not march on Moscow". Various people have tried it, Napoleon andHitler, and it is no good. That is the first rule. I do not know whether yourLordships will know Rule 2 of war. It is: "Do not go fighting with yourland armies in China". It is a vast country, with no clearly definedobjectives.

So the answer for short is, you better notinvade China on land.

It’s a silly question that has anentertaining answer.
So let’s believe for a moment India is finewith letting a lot of Americans pass through the nation with an ass-load of anarsenal. And yeah, China is busy playing Pokemon, so they don’t have a clueabout why there has been the largest fleet movement (warships+troops andmaterials transportation) since the last World War, that took place in thePacific and landed in India, for about a year.
Trump lost the nuke codes, and the Chineseflushed theirs into the toilet for no reason, and they are still trying to findthem into the sewer.
India must be used as base of operations:hospitals, storage, airfields.
Now, they still have to pass through thehighest mountain range in the world:
Hi-tech alpine troops and some specialforces are the best choice.
“Hey Bronson! Look at that, it says we have to go to theHimmalayan Range, that’s a piece of cake!”
Suddenly the Chinese crap their pants whenconnection to Pokemon’s server is lost, and they realize they let the Yankeesat their doorstep. Or I better call it “at their velux on the roof”.
The Chinese start to deploy troops, whilethe airforce strikes them.
“Ah these Yankee devils, they didn’t let us play Pokemon, nowlook at that, hand in hand.”
The front may vaguely be like theItalian-Austrian front during WWI.
Let’s get a quick help from pictures.
Hey there boys, Cadorna didn’t execute you yet? Just marchtoward the Schwarzlose andyou’ll be fine.
Hey sarge, I tried to shoot the Italiener mit meinem Mannlicher! They more than 2 km away, I did hit nozing!

A logistical nightmare. Bringing artillery up there, almostbrought the mules to extinction.
Changing the guard at 4500 meters.
So, you get the idea.
It’s something, a tiny bit, like this.Except for the fact the Alps reach the 4500 meters, passing throught Himmalayasyou reach 8000 meters and when you’re in Tibet’s Plateau, you’re going to facethis:
No Blitzkrieg for you there, boys.
For what can I see from landscape, as otherspointed out, you have no roads, no railways.
For the purpose of invading China from theHimmalayan range (again, we must assume the entire US army staff went nut), USArmy trained, a lot, on Rocky Mountains - the US soil that’s at least somethinglike the Himmalayas. So, they got practical in finding new ways to pass throughthis logistical nightmare such is mountain-top warfare. And they pulled out alot of crazy elite alpine troops and some good alpine enthusiasts (literally)“ready to rock”.
But training is nothing, almost. Himmalayais another kind of beast. Both party, while airduelling and airstriking theirbases (at least for the American side, India didn’t lose their nuclear codesand decided to go with a “if you kill a cow, you’re going to regret it…”policy, so Indian airspace is off limits for China unless they want to faceIndia as well), must strain to bring forward bases while building roads andrailroads to supply their infantry that’s stuck, once again, in some sort of high-altitudetrench warfare. Even if bringing artillery up there is very hard.
For both parties, heavy machinery isofflimits; you can’t operate tanks unless you spend years creating solid roadsthat cut through mountains. You can’t probably even use trucks or jeeps forvery long distance without getting into a strip of land that’s stillimpassable.
While the rest of the world, let’s say for ayear, is watching both China and USA with a couple of questions in mind:
Then after this rashed adventure, US hadenought and call for a truce. A hundred thousand deaths for both thebelligerent parties. Most of the casualty is due to the rough terrain, manycannot be retrieved.
Tibet would get a lot of new infrastructureand in the end the world wondered how could they think to pass through animpassable mountain range.
