(Jon Woo/Reuters) China's military has been increasing the strength and number of its forces along its 880-mile border with North Korea as Pyongyang's military provocations cause the US and its allies to think long and hard about military action against the rogue regime.

I wonder what will happen to NK once the regime falls. Would China absorb them or would South Korea or will it just say independent under different leadership? I can't imagine either country would want them. It would probably bankrupt South Korea. So I'm guessing it'll be China.

Instead, they are positioning troops on the border in order to keep any North Korean military from running into China, if the SHTF. That way, no pursuit of North Korean military into China. China wants to make it clear that they aren't aligned with North Korea and don't want the U.S. to assume it either.

Why on earth the Chinese sat back and allowed NK to develop nukes on its border is beyond me. There's simply no strategic advantange for China. The South is protected by US nukes and the North is protected by Chinese and Russian nukes.

China has no choice but to close the border and quarantine itself from North Korean refugees. I believe we are getting closer to something happening over there. I cannot believe we cannot launch a single non nuclear missile onto the head of Kim Jong-un. But if not then North Korea will eventually become the dog who caught the car. They will have nuclear weapons capable of destroying large regions of the United States and will then be faced with the mutually assured destruction scenario. Their entire pursuit of nuclear weapons is a foolish waste as it will get them nowhere.

China enjoys having North Korea as a buffer between the US allied South Korea and their own border. If not they would have long ago taken over North Korea. As it stands it provides China some sense of security with their southern border. Although with the size of their army a land invasion should be the last thing they're worried about.
