4. Japanese losses on foreign investments. The Japanese exported its savings when the domestic bubble blew out of proportion. However they made heavy losses on their investment overseas. China is limiting foreign investments now partially to save from making this mistake and partially to maintain the strength of reserves.

I think this is also partially due to the fact that politics hasn't been an issue in China and also that the Chinese people complain far less due to their humble beginnings.

The Soviets' collapse had nothing to do with economic reform their reform started after the collapse and the Wall Street prescribed "free market reforms" for them were nothing but a robbery of the people.
Japan may have incurred losses in their foreign investments in the beginning but they are making a killing now. The current chinese crackdown is all about stopping oligarchs from transferring their wealth overseas with bullshit inflated deals.
