The left making a serious push to dismantle not just confederate history (which can be and is dismissed by large chunks of America as "shameful" and not worthy of protection) but American history will unite all the most radical leftists against them. This would be the best thing they could possibly do.
What's funny is that people had started to make "slippery slope" arguments about Trump's question ("Oh that's stupid, no one is going to advocate that we tear down statues of Washington and Jefferson or blow up Mt. Rushmore. That's completely different from taking down statues of confederate generals.")...and then the left starts actually advocating the removal of Washington and Jefferson statues and blowing up Mt. Rushmore!

Mt. Rushmore was constructed on land that was given to the Lakota Indian tribes by the Treaty of Fort Laramie. The treaty affirmed in 1868 was subsequently violated by the United States federal government, and the land was forcibly taken by the federal government during the Black Hills War, after the beginning of the gold rush in the Black Hills. The Black Hills War was partly fought under the Presidency of Ulysses Grant. Ironic? So do we keep monuments of Grant up for fighting for the Union against the Confederacy, or do we tear it down for fighting and killing so many Native Americans, while taking their land? Oh yeah, Grant also owned slaves.
