The US Navy today faces a devastating missile gap between its two biggest rivals Russia and China but a new upgrade could quite literally blow the two competitors out of the water.

Russia's anti-ship Club missiles can reach 186 miles and boosts into supersonic speeds when nearing a target.

The US Navy's Harpoon missile is subsonic and travels just 77 miles. Simply put these missiles would chew up a US carrier strike group with destroyers and cruisers protecting an aircraft carrier. Launching F/A-18s off a carrier could out-range and beat back a Russian or Chinese attack but the missile gap remains palpable and a threat to the US Navy's highest-value assets.

With missiles out-ranging China and Russia's fleets many times over the US could engage with targets and hold them at risk far beyond the horizon. Similarly this could help break down anti-access and area-denial zones established by Russia in the Baltics and the Black Sea and China in the South China Sea.

Mark Johnson of Naval Air Systems Command told USNI News.

Russia has a number of ships that already have installed the naval version of the S-400 ( the best air defense system on the planet -- bar none) as well as a number of the S-300 air defense systems ---- also soon to be upgraded to the S-400. With a 250 mile range the S-400 can and will knock down ANY cruise missile LONG before it transits to hypersonic. (it also stands a 65% chance of knocking even hypersonic targets out of the air). Proven fact. Now that's Russia. As far as China is concerned Russia has sold the Chinese 5 battalions of the S-400 --- how long do you think it will take for them to reverse-engineer those S-400 and install them on Naval vessels ? Bill took a lot of funding away from the military and my father noticed how the quality of military weapons and products went down the drain and was unreliable. If the democrats were always in control of things I'm sure by now our country would have collapsed a long time ago. We would be so far in debt and no military strength whatsoever.

So why are these articles always written like we're running around in rowboats against a vastly superior enemy and we've just GOT to get them something that will "turn the tables" on them?
