Taiwan has long seen its international allies switching allegiance to an ascendant Beijing but now there are also fears of a brain drain of the island's youth as they pursue careers in rival China.

Wang receives free housing and office space as an incentive from the Xiamen city government an example of the perks offered by provincial authorities which also include generous grants.

According to China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) over 6000 Taiwanese young people are working or interning at more than 50 youth start-up bases launched since 2015.

Top Chinese political and business leaders including Premier Li Keqiang and Alibaba founder Jack Ma have also encouraged Taiwanese youth to chase careers in China.

While Wang says she has no strong political views others who do are putting them to one side for jobs.

One twenty-something has opted to work in China even though he supports Taiwanese independence -- a concept intolerable to Beijing.

一位二十来岁的小伙子选择在中国大陆工作，尽管他支持台独——北京无法容忍的理念。

"I just focus on how to do my job well" the young worker told AFP on condition of anonymity saying he hoped it would be a stepping stone to an international career.

"My Chinese colleagues sometimes say things like 'Taiwan is a part of China' but that's their freedom of speech" he said.

Despite being a fully fledged democracy Taiwan has never announced a formal split from China. Beijing has threatened military action if it ever did.

4 years ago when I was in Australia I met a group of young Taiwanese graduates picking fruits for a living. I asked them why. They explained to me it's rather hard to get a job in Taiwan despite being graduates. Then I went to Hangzhou to work for a very short stint in a Taiwanese company. They were operating there for the past 20 years. My boss' friends & associates were mostly from Taiwan. I can see they are very familiar with the place & culture. Their favorite pastimes are eating drinking massaging gambling & karaoke. When I got closer to some of them & enquired about their reasons to be in China they told me opportunities are better in China than in their own country. But one thing they seldom talked about is politic.

The stupid and useless current Taiwanese government DPP is most selfish and dangerous political party for Taiwan. This party doesn't care of the promotion of peace stability and prosperity of Taiwan. Their only agenda is promoting Taiwan independent from China at the expenses of Taiwanese people especially at the expenses of Taiwanese young people who are constantly brainwashed by the Taiwan independent forces. Taiwanese young people are suffering from lack of job opportunity political instability and uncertain future. The salary scale in Taiwan is about the same as Indonesia or the Philippines. China is for Chinese and Asians and more than other Asian countries. China will not treat Taiwan better than any other countries would do to Taiwan.

It is called "after a long divided finally it will be unified" and "after long unified it will be divided". I heard china is recruiting Phillipines maids also. Monthly salary is RMB 13k or US$2000 per month. It is better than what Phillipines maid work in Hong Kong or Singapore. In Hong Kong maid receive hk$ 4000 or us$530 per month. In Singapore maid get about S$350 or US$260 per month. Why china offer better pay than more developed economies?

it is not increasing sense of pride. It is the pro independent party has tried everything to cut the culture and tradition from Mainland China. It will fail and fail big time even it tries everything to brainwash the youngest not to identify themselves as Chinese. No matter how hard those pro independents and some Western force behind it try eventual reunification is really a matter of time.

Two countries can have two presidents but one countriy can only has one. But to the general workers there us no difference between one or two countries since they share the same blood cultures language etc.. So everyone has no real problem to be under one country only the "president" has real problem to be unified. So the "president" of Taiwan including its followers who benefits directly from the president insist to be "independent". The logic is so simple. Plus the outside powers like US and Japan of course support Taiwan's independence movement due to geopolitics.

两国可以有两位总统，但一个国家就只能有一个。但对一般工人来说，既然他们有着相同的血缘、文化、语言等等，一国还是两国没有区别。所以大家对于统一没有意见，只有“总统”不希望统一。所以台湾“总统”及其追随者坚持要“独立”。逻辑就这么简单。此外，美国和日本等外部势力基于地缘政治的缘故，必然支持台湾独立运动。

Holy #$%$ the pro-mainland propaganda in this thread is utterly ridiculous.Of course Taiwan has trouble - they have one island where everyone moved to get away from tyranny. It's overpopulated. Thus they have to go to mainland China and sway the country to finally embrace democracy and humane treatment for all citizen. The Taiwanese will be part of the shining light that brings China out of the barbarism of its dark ages (which began in the fighting after the Manchu dynasty was overthrown and has last in some form until today.

The current Taiwanese government DPP is the most selfish and dangerous party who careless about the promotion of peace stability and prosperity for Taiwan and Taiwanese people. Their only agenda is to promote Taiwan independent at the expenses of Taiwanese people. There is no other people cares for Taiwan than mainland Chinese and mainland Chinese government. I don't why Taiwanese government would go all the trouble to get away from mainland China that is the root of all Chinese in Taiwan. There is absolutely no future for Taiwanese young people in Taiwan. My parents are from there and they tell me how Taiwan is going downhill from here and what I should do to avoid the stuck in Taiwan.
