You will need another country with a high populations to cope with the new load. Farming, factories etc requires raw manpower to handle.

While you could certainly argue that you could use technology to cope with the shortage of manpower, there’s no good reason to believe that China is not currently using these technology, and whatever technology you could use, any other country could use them too, and when multiplied by the number of man they could use, India will still be a better choice.
