中国报道称南海诸岛的扩展是“合理的” [美国媒体]

BEIJING (Reuters) - China has "reasonably" expanded its islands in the disputed South China Sea and this year construction projects there including radar facilities covered about 290000 square meters (72 acres) according to a new government report.

北京(路透社)——根据一份新的政府报告，中国是“合法地”扩建了其在中国南海富有争议的岛屿，而且今年的施工项目还包括可以覆盖29万平方米（72英亩）的雷达设施。

The number was broadly similar to one provided by a U.S. think tank earlier this month.

China has conducted extensive land reclamation work on some of the islands and reefs it controls in the South China Sea including building airports alarming its neighbors and Washington.

Beijing says the work is help provide international services such as search-and-rescue but admits there is a military purpose too. China also says it can do whatever it wants on its territory.

The new report posted on a website run by China's National Marine Data and Information Service and the overseas edition of the ruling Communist Party's People's Daily says China has enhanced its military presence there and "reasonably" expanded the area covered by the islands.

Apart from what it termed "large radar" - it was unclear if the report was referring to more than one - construction this year has included facilities for underground storage and administrative buildings.

There has been an increase in military patrols too the report added without giving specifics.

While attention in Asia has been distracted by the North Korean nuclear crisis in the past year China has continued to install high-frequency radar and other facilities that can be used for military purposes on its man-made islands in the South China Sea a U.S. think tank said this month.

That report by the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative of Washington's Center for Strategic and International Studies said Chinese activity has involved work on facilities covering 72 acres (29 hectares) of the Spratly and Paracel islands territory contested with several Asian neighbors.

 华盛顿智库“战略与国际问题研究中心”(CSIS)所设的亚洲海事透明倡议（AMTI）的这份报告表示，中国方面安装此类设备的行动包含了南沙和西沙群岛中与周边几个亚洲邻国有领土争议的72英亩（29公顷）领土。

More than $5 trillion of world trade is shipped through the South China Sea every year. Besides China's territorial claims in the area Vietnam Malaysia Brunei the Philippines and Taiwan have rival claims.

Quit trying to stir up trouble. If nations feel that alarmed they can start building their own islands in the South China Sea. China doesn't hold a patent on building islands. If it's that important go out and build one too. Oh FYI China has just launched the world's biggest amphibian plane. Guess what will be it's mission?

I thought China stated these fake islands were never to be militarized? Now China is bragging about their militarization of these islands. The my way or the highway behavior by China is the face of international condemnation proves China has become a cold war enemy of Western society. Under these illegal and aggressive Chinese actions trade between China and the West is no longer sustainable. It has become very apparent China has been using free trade as a criminal enterprise in order to advance themselves so that China could eventually challenge free market economies on a global scale with their stated purpose of supplanting Western ideals with their repressive communist ideology. Under these conditions trade with China will be ending. The sooner the better since once trade between China and the West ends China's economy will collapse and we can all get back to reality.

What China did is nothing compared to the death and destruction from the manipulation and geopolitical gamble in the Middle East. The highly western-esteemed Arab Spring but to the world at large is a western bull-doze against any international practice. After this disaster US and its allies got the cheeks to tell the world about freedom of navigation and rule of law. So far they couldn't instigate chaos in the SCS to humiliate and denounce China simply because ASEAN are strong and united about their affairs.
