South Korea: What do Koreans think of Singaporeans?

When I was an exchange student at Seoul National University, whenever a Korean local realised that I was Singaporean during our casual conversations in Korean, they generally had very positive impressions of Singapore.
Impressions of Singapore as a clean city-state, as well as respect for Singapore's founding father - the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, were most often heard.
South Korean locals who had been under the rule of the late President Park Chung-hee would especially be familiar with Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who was a good friend of Park.
In universities, many South Korean students regard getting into the National University of Singapore (싱가포르국립대학) as equally prestigious as getting into any one of the 'SKY' universities - Seoul National University (서울대학교), Korea University (고려대학교) and Yonsei University (연세대학교).

Because Singapore is so far away and we do not have much interaction with Singapore compared to the big neighbors, China, Japan and the U.S., most people have no opinion really.
Because Hong Kong is much closer to South Korea, people are more familiar with Hong Kong and it somewhat eclipses Singapore.

Most Koreans don't really think of Singaporeans in daily life, because most of our news articles are about China and Japan, since they are our neighboring countries.
Still, Koreans think that Singapore is a small, rich, clean, safe and strict country in a positive way.
When it comes to traveling to Singapore, all of my Korean female friends have one goal to stay at Marina Bay Sands hotel, just for the pool on the roof. They at least stay there for one night. Also, Korean girls love to shop at Charles and Keith.
When I lived in Singapore, I really enjoyed eating at Hawker Centre and hanging out at Clarke Quay. I felt really safe, even walking around at 11 pm. I didn't see any stray dogs or dangerous looking people. I had mostly positive experiences and wouldn't mind living there again.

It depends, I was a South Korean who lived in Singapore for 3 and half years.
To be honest, I don’t think Singapore is under the Koreans radar.
People think Singapore is a very nice place to travel and we think this country is rich relatives to their neighboring countries.
In terms of Singaporeans, general Korean population will have lack of knowledge so they will either have no opinion or negative generic stereotypes about South East Asian countries.

I once lived in Singapore and it was awesome! Korean thinks Singapore is one of the most developed and economic-centered countries in Asia. Not everbody knows well about it, though..

They think Singaporeans are Chinese or at least dominated by Chinese diaspora. They see it as another Taiwan. By they I mean Korean people who had little exposure to Singapore

My best friend lives in Singapore.
She’s sweet and loyal.
She both speaks Chinese and English, so
we usually speak in English.
I love her and i adore her.
Because of her, i think that Singaporeans are very good, loyal, smart,
hard-working people. (Because she’s of Chinese origin, i have a very good impression toward Chinese people too)
What i like the most about her is that she’s so loyal as a friend.
I really love that quality in her, and I hope God bless our
friendship forever more.
:)

They think of Singapore as a successful model for a country that had independence from England through leadership of a dictator-like benefactor when S.E. Asia/Asia was rife with similar men of power.
They are envied for their high quality multi-lingual education that continues to fuel divided families; who send children/spouse with hopes of an Asian based education springboard for further education opportunities to Europe/America.
Recently, they have found Singaporeans appear lost amongst the recent government policies to expand their population base, and feeling like second class citizens in a very international job market where the expats are reign superior.

My Korean friend who studied in Singapore for 12 years and just recently returned to Seoul for good said that when she mentioned she'd studied and lived in Singapore, her peers thought of her as a rich and well-educated. So... probably that?

For me, when I hear Singaporeans,
it means they are very smart, rich, and some countries that we can learn from. But I have to admit most of S. Koreans don't really mind Singaporeans. It is like when you go to America, and you say I am from Korea, and no body really bothers to ask questions about Korea unless they are interested in Korean culture or anything related to Korea.
