So, how *does* Shanghai compare to Kansas City anyway?

Not sure who came up with the idea of comparing Shanghai to Kansas City, but I’m guessing it’s a K.C. native seeking to demonstrate civic pride. Unfortunately, by posting this question it can lead to mockery, since Kansas City would not get listed as a superpower metropolis in any global rankings.Yet I admire those with civic pride even if you come from a place such as Boise, Idaho, I would hope you love your hometown. Nonetheless, a person must take a realistic view on the perceived greatness of one’s native city. So what does Kansas City offer that Shanghai does not.
I had grown up in Dallas, TX, so it’s my understanding that K.C. is a cool sports town. They have the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL (National Football League) and Kansas City Royals of the MLB (Major League Baseball). They have loyal fans, who show fervent support for local teams in good years and bad.Kansas City is also well-known for its BBQ restaurants. I myself had never visited K.C., so I can’t speak from experience but I’ve been told the city has some of the best BBQ and steakhouses in the United States.
But other than tasting delicious BBQ and going to a thrilling football game, K.C. holds no comparison to Shanghai on other important matters, such as serving as location hub for financial activities in Asia. Shanghai has emerged as the financial capital city of China and is expected to continue on experiencing rapid economic growth and attract some of the world’s best senior executives’ talent for regional corporate offices based there.
According to surveys, Shanghai stands tall as one of the top ten financial centers in our world. The Shanghai Daily had posted a story on it with a link here:“SHANGHAI ranked No. 6 in the 22th Global Financial Centres Index, up from 13th last time, and a report ranked the the city's insurance industry as No. 1 in the world for the first time.Would Kansas City even earn a ranking in the ‘Top 100’ global financial hubs? That’s doubtful. Hence, Shanghai deserves special recognition for rising to the cream of the crop among financial circles. The success story of Shanghai as an economic powerhouse city seemed impossible over four decades ago when much of China was mired in poverty, but that was until the late leader Deng Xiaoping had announced a new policy of reform and opening up for the country, which was formally introduced in December 1978 with its ‘Opening Door’ policy.
From that day on, the Chinese government has implemented new free market reforms in a staged and ongoing process, which inspired many Chinese to pursue jobs in the private sector, and so many people moved to Shanghai, where many had become wealthy.Shanghai has become a special city for the international business community and one has to wonder if anyone from Kansas City is living and working in China’s finance hub at this very moment

Actually, if you visit Shanghai, you gonna be quite impressed. If you first visit China, Shanghai definitely would make you feel like “Is this China?” In many ways, it’s not China.. it’s so westernized, and you don’t find such traits in many other Chinese cities. But Shanghai is really a fun place to live. It’s quite diverse, and can fullfill all kinds of your needs.
Shanghai is also a good place to work at. With top companies, good market..As China’s image, Shanghai is built to be one of the best cities in China. High tech products, cool buildings, new experiments… it’s a place to show off China’s economic development. In Shanghai, you gonna feel that buzz, that boom. your life can be very busy and interesting. But it comes with the high price. The property is quite expensive there, even the rent. You gonna need to get used to crowded subways, traffic jams and small apartments.I generally find American cities are slower paced, unless you are in New York, Washington and other megacities. So I don’t know why you compare these two cities… Shanghai and Kansas city. I would say Shanghai is somehow in the middle of Kansas City and New York. It’s busier than Kansas City, dirtier than it and bigger.

Shanghai is the largest city in the world by some measurements. It is an international city with a highly developed public transport system, almost half a million foreign workers, a population of 25 million and the most developed city in China. It has a rich architecture of traditional Chinese to art-deco to ultra-modern.As for Kansas City, well it doesn’t compare to that but I guess that’s what makes it special for some people. Quieter. Less developed. Little public transport. Cleaner air.

There is no comparison to be honest.Kansas City is way larger, in terms of population and GDP, than Shanghai City.Despite being named a city, Shanghai really is just a small village in the middle of no where. In any aspect of life, such as entertainment, education, healthcare, convenience etc., Kansas City beats Shanghai in a different level.

Is this a joke? Or you lack global understanding? Kansas is set in a desert middle of America filled with Bible Belt mentality while Shanghai is a coastal city seeking to become a new cosmopolitan city.Shanghai is double times NewYork with better public transport, cleaner streets, nicer buildings and food to die for.

Shanghai is 2018 and embracing the future while Kansas City remains in 1976 and is trying everything to go back to the 1950s.
