Buenos Aires (AFP) - The White House is considering a possible visit by President Barack Obama to Hiroshima, the Japanese city devastated in history's first atomic bombing at the close of World War II, a US official told AFP.

The official, who asked not to be named, said the details of Obama's visit to Japan for a Group of Seven summit in late May had yet to be finalized, but a trip to Hiroshima had not been ruled out.

Obama is scheduled to participate in the summit of leading democracies in central Japan's Mie prefecture.

In 2008, then-House speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Hiroshima, becoming the highest, sitting US political figure to visit the city.

"The bombings are controversial in the United States, where opinion remains divided over whether their use in the closing days of World War II was justified"
Only liberal morons are the one's calling the use of these weapons "controversial". What they seem to ignore is this, The Untied States, The Soviet Union, and Japan were all working on the "atom bomb". Using the nukes saved millions of lives and in fact ended the war. It's amazing how stupidly people look back 71 years and whines about ending a war with technology that saved million of lives.

My father worked on the first Atomic Bomb and I've studied much of its history. Today the Japanese are trying to change history acting like the victims of WWII when they were clearly the aggressors.
Fact; Japan was not going to surrender until we dropped the first Atomic Bomb, even after we dropped the bomb their military was still insisting that even their civilians fight to the death.
When the Emperor finally was thinking of surrender and this info got to the Japanese military a uprising started by a high ranking Japanese officer to over throw the Emperor are carry on the war, thankfully for the Japanese civilians the uprising failed. And the Emperors radio broadcast of Japans surrender was broadcast.
Fact; It was estimated by our Military dept that the Bombs saved at least a million to a million and a half Japanese lives. It was also estimated that the bombs saved 500,000 to one million American lives had to war gone on like the Japanese Military wanted. Japanese children as young as 8 years old were being trained by their military to repel American soldiers on the beach with bamboo spears had we invade Japan, that is how fanatical the Japanese were.
The Japanese were NEVER the victims in WWII they were clearly the aggressors. They murdered thousands of American POWs. They murdered and raped hundreds of thousands of Chinese women, threw Chinese babies in the air and bayoneted them, yet today they want to claim they are the victims? They were the animals of WWII.

"The bombings are controversial in the United States, where opinion remains divided over whether their use in the closing days of World War II was justified"
Who cares what people today think. The only ones who have a valuable opinion about this are those who were alive then, and know what it was like to send our citizens off to that war. This country was a lot more united in that effort than we have been on anything since, except maybe for a few days after 9/11.
Typically, historians who are consulted on things like this are from academia and everyone knows academia is littered with liberal whack-jobs.

"The (atomic) bombings (of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) are controversial in the United States..." Oh really? Where? Inside the White House? In San Francisco? Millenials? Not in my family. My grandfather was slated to be one of the hundreds of thousands of young American GI's to go to war for the first time in the invasion of Japan. He was convinced the atomic bombs saved his life, and therefore mine. Did you know that Purple Hearts that are awarded today were made in 1945, in anticipation of the invasion of mainland Japan? No, you never would have learned that, that isn't anti American propaganda, and that's all they teach now.

This sick, twisted, Marxist-Leninist, should visit the Bataan Death March site, where 70,000 men, many American soldiers, and our allies, were murdered by the evil Japanese Army, or to Nanking where the Japanese murdered 200,000 men, women and even children, to pay his respects to the US Servicemen and their allies. This filthy, race baiting, US hating apologist is the worse thing to disgrace the White House since Harding, even worse, and even makes Jimmy Carter look like John Adams. For all of your idiots that voted, some twice, for this #$%$, nice job.

Just want to clear up the misconception that the bombs were dropped during the closing days of the war. They were not dropped during the closing days of the war, at the time the war was far from being over. It was the dropping of the two bombs that brought the Japanese to surrender. It was the dropping of the two bombs that made it the closing days of the war. I love how people these days believe that the US was wrong for dropping the bombs, but not a single one of them have ever done the research on why those bombs were dropped. US military planners were estimating 1 million casualties if the US had to invade mainland Japan that is just US casualties that doesnt include Japanese casualties. I love how people forget how the Japanese acted when we invaded Saipan where 1000 Japanese civilians jumped to their death so they would not be captured by the US. There is no argument the dropping of the two bombs was a blessing and save the lives of millions including myself since my grandfather would have been killed in the initial invasion.

"The bombings are controversial in the United States, where opinion remains divided over whether their use in the closing days of World War II was justified." Who wrote this?
"Harry S.Truman was interviewed in the 1960's and was asked about the decision to

public was war weary and that in preparation of the proposed invasion of the Japanese home
islands the GAO had ordered a half million Purple Hearts and that was the conservative
estimate. He also said that if the wives, sweethearts, sisters and daughters of servicemen

and rightfully so. Those are his words not mine."

Obama hates America. He will probably apologize to Japan.
Is the world safer today under Obama's foreign policy? The reset with Russia, the Arab Spring, his way of stopping ISIS. How have they worked out?
Obamacare has it lowered cost, did you have to change your doctor?
The economy is it healthy or is it depressed?
Everything Obama has done has failed. He has lied to America believing the ends justify the means.
Obama hates Americans, the Constitution, and free market capitalism. He destroyed our economy with measures like the ACA and immigration amnesty. The “Affordable” Care Act has been nothing short of a disaster. My health insurance bill is up to $450/month. (Compare this to my $25/month auto insurance from Insurance Panda or my $10/month renters insurance… both private enterprise!)
Obama thinks more gun laws will fix what is broken. California has what he wants. Did that stop a terrorist attack? Obama has not been right yet. What makes this any different.

When it comes to innocent Asian lives it doesn't matter does it?They can drop two atomic bombs and killed thousands and there is no controversy because the lives of Asians in particular Japanese meant nothing. All because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Not to mention what happened with Japanese all over the world put in internment camps.Yet you have Muslims that killed 3000 plus civilians on 9/11 and other atrocities but we should tip toe around their feelings and be as politically correct as possible. We should be careful who we bomb.I'm not saying this is what needs to be done but for the Muslims crying discrimination look to
Pearl Harbor and see how nice you have it made.

As someone born in 1946, and growing up after the end of WWII, I have never doubted that President Truman was justified in using the atomic bomb. All any American has to do is to watch the American Heroes channel to see how the Marines and Army personnel fought and died, for every inch of the Pacific Islands, to see what kind of casualties our brave soldiers would have endured if we had to attack Japan. I believe the only division over the use ot the atomic bombs is in the minds of inviduals who never served in the military, or lost someone during WWII. As for using the bombs "in the closing days of World War II", the author is wrong. The bombs closed the war only after there usage, and even then, the Japanese military did not want to surrender. Read your history of the war in the Pacific. I imagine our current President who is lavishly wasting our tax payer money on his travels during his last year, will probably appologize for our use of the bombs. As a side note, he wants the ex-presidents to get an 18% increase in money for their use after they leave office. This from a man who never served a day in the military, and hasn't seen fit to provide a decent increase in Social Security cost of living for retirees. He doesn't have to worry, he will get an annual retirement check of $200,000, not including other money he will receive for administrative purposes.

Why not the family should just keep on traveling at our expense creating that large carbon footprint. This celebrity president was by far the biggest mistake for president this country has ever made. I think he should then get back and fund raise like hell on our dime and then take a long golf weekend again in California cause after all they pretty much need to go back on vacations or long weekends every 4-5 weeks. Might as well suck every dime and elaborate trips as they can before out of office. They have proven to be the entitlement first family. Instead of making a good name for himself and moving race relations forward he did just the opposite. He ran as a slightly left of center candidate but in office is true blue hard left mooching liberal. He has simply been a puppet president who has sucked all they could get from the tax payer. Disgusting and the educated hard working black people should be upset that he did nothing to help the black cause. Instead he pushed to help Muslims more.

Of all US Presidents Obama is the only one that never went to the D-DAY memorial in Normandy that honored the hundred of thousands of American men and women who wounded or killed serving this country. Now he can go to Hiroshima at the drop of a hat.
This worthless waste of flesh has done nothing but disrespect this country and the military who serve us. My guess is that he is going to every country to pitch himself for a UN position. Like he hasn't F'ed up this country enough he wants a shot at screwing the rest of the world up.

I have no issue with Obama visiting Hiroshima, but when there is an attack like there was in Belgium, he shouldn't be at a baseball game in Cuba. It has nothing to do with his ability to do more than one thing at a time, or that he's in constant communication with everyone he should be, but it has everything to do with leadership. Our citizens are scared, looking for reassurance, and get zero from this president. If an attack like what happened in Belgium comes to America, he's going to take the brunt of the criticism, and it will be deserved. His 51 second speech saying that he feels like he is "saying the same thing often" does nothing to alleviate the fear, but rather shows him to be more detached. I know he never held a position of leadership as a community organizer, but he has been president for 7 years. Whoever is giving this guy advice on public perception needs to be gone....
