The United States on Tuesday sailed awarship close to a disputed South China Sea reef Beijing has built up into anartificial island, officials said, prompting China to express"dissatisfaction and opposition".

美国周二将战舰开近了北京将其建造成人造岛屿的富有争议的南海暗礁，官员说，中国对此表示了不满和抗议。

Guided-missile destroyer USS William P.Lawrence navigated within 12 nautical miles of the Fiery Cross Reef, occupiedby China and also claimed by Vietnam, Taiwan and the Philippines, the Pentagonsaid.

"This operation challenged attempts byChina, Taiwan, and Vietnam to restrict navigation rights around the featuresthey claim," Pentagon spokesman Commander Bill Urban said in a statement.

What gets me about this is how it's not abigger deal to the world. Not that China is trying to expand its empire, buthow they are doing it. They are dumping huge amounts of dirt and #$%$ on top ofany reef they can find and that includes the coral ones. I'm not a tree huggeror green peace nut, but China does enough to #$%$ up nature as it is. How isthe animal/ocean/nature community not in complete rage mode?

I find it hilarious that China complainsabout this, didn't they respond to this by sending 5 of their own ships within12 miles off of Alaska like last year on September? We didn't even do anythingto them, not even sending in our own ships, I even heard that got too cold forthem and they left.
