As an American, I would say we are probably tied with the British for worst tourists.

作为一个美国人，我认为我们美国人和英国人才是最糟糕的游客。包括我自己。

I don’t mean this in some abstract, American guilt way, where I say Americans other than me are the worst tourists. I include myself among these terrible Americans. Last time I traveled abroad I was drunk for over a week straight and did some things during that time which I won’t report for fear of making everyone hate me. Fortunately, I was in England and a good many of these things were done in the company of members of the native population. If I was in another country I would have really stuck out.

上次我去国外旅游时，连续醉酒一周，而且期间做的一些事情我不敢向大家报告，怕大家讨厌我。幸运的是，我当时是在英格兰，和很多当地人一起做了这些事情。如果是在其他国家，我肯定相当的显眼。

While I think you’re right that some of this has a racist element I think in many cases it can be explained merely in terms of different cultural values. For instance, in New York City, ironic as it might seem, stopping to take photographs of something in the middle of the sidewalk is easily considered more infuriating than two people literally fighting to anything but the death in an alley out of everyone’s way.

Emotionally I would actually be more enraged to see someone (Chinese or American) taking photos in the middle of the street than to see two guys sinking their teeth into each other as long as they were not in my way. So on an emotional level I might be inclined to view the Chinese as the worst since their actions tend to be more enraging.

我觉得看到某人（中国人或者美国人）停在路中间拍照比看到两个人打架还恼火，只要这两个没有阻挡我的去路就行。所以从情绪层面看，我倾向于认为中国游客更糟糕，因为他们的行为更令人恼火。



By spreading negative perceptions of the Chinese, people will automatically think the Chinese must be doing something wrong in order to have “earned” such a perception. People will assume the Chinese deserve blame even when much of this negative perception is made up or manufactured.

通过散播有关中国人的负面看法，人们会自动的认为中国人肯定做了一些错事才获得这样的名声。人们就会认为中国人应该受到指责，即使其中很多负面看法都是捏造的。
