THE METRO:
Imagine saying this to a New Yorker.
Me: “I think Shanghai is the NY of China”.
Them: “WTF?! No way. You’re out of your mind. There’s no place like NY, baby! Tell me one thing Shanghai has on NY?
Me: A damn good Metro System.
Them: (Crickets)….okay…yeah…yeah they got us there.
The ease of which I can get around in Shanghai is one of the top 5 reasons why I find it hard to leave here.
I come from a State where we don’t have a metro system.
You have a car, or you’re screwed.
So having such an efficient transportation system, makes all the difference.

Why do I say Mad Max?
Because traffic signals are nothing but a suggestion here - ESPECIALLY if you drive a scooter.
Red lights? Stop. For what?
Pedestrians walking in front of you? They’ll navigate through you.

I have been asked why I don't get a car in China! My answer is WHY? Where I live they are just getting a metro up and running so I primarily walk or take a taxi. So easy and convenient. I don't have to worry about parking, maintenance, Insurance and I don't have to fight traffic. And usually it is less than 20 rmb ($3) to go where I want. Once they get a few more metro lines running, which will be soon, it will get even easier.

我被问及为什么不在中国买辆车！我的回答是为什么？我居住的地方将开通地铁，所以我主要是走路或者打的。非常简单和方便。没必要担心停车，维修，保险，也没必要面对交通拥堵。一般不到20元就可以到我要去的地方。一旦他们再多修几条地铁线，很快就会有，届时出行更方便了。



Shanghai Maglev Train
The Shanghai Maglev Train, first commercial Maglev railway in the world, was constructed by Transrapid of Germany in cooperation with the Shanghai municipality and the Shanghai Maglev Transportation Development Co (SMT). The route runs from Shanghai's Longyang Road subway station in Pudong to Pudong International Airport. The 30 km trip takes 8 minutes only and reaches a maximum speed of 431 km/h (267.8 mph).
Uber and its Chinese counterpart Didi Chuxing are also you choices in Shanghai and many people use them .
