Fashion retailer Zara has sparkedwidespread debate in China by publishing photos of one of the country's topmodels without retouching her freckles.

"I'm sorry, we Asian women don't havefreckles," wrote EvelynYoung_23. "Even if we do, it's a small numberof people ... You must have tried very hard to find such a model."

EvelynYoung_23说“不好意思,我们亚洲女性不长雀斑,即便真的有雀斑,也只是一小部分人有……找到这样一位模特,你们一定费了不少劲儿吧。”

But most comments appeared to defend bothJing and the campaign. A number of users celebrated Zara's depiction of themodel's natural complexion.

不过大部分的评论还是维护静雯和这则广告的。许多用户为Zara能展现模特天然的肤色而欢呼。



"Every person has differentunderstanding of beauty and we don't have to have the same view ofaesthetics," read a post from a Weibo account named TheChineseModels,"but we need to be open with different faces."

一位账号名为“TheChineseModels”的微博用户写到,“每个人对美的理解不同,没必要要求大家对美有同样的看法,但我们得对不同的面孔持开放态度。”

"Li Jingwen is thousands of times morebeautiful than those faces that have been retouched," said user saxaK,while Amy_xuhui implored: "Please don't live in the filters, isn't it goodto be real?"

用户“saxaK”说,“李静雯要比那些修饰过的面孔好看上千倍,” 而“Amy xuhui”则恳求大家“请不要活在滤镜里了,真实一点不好吗?”

At the time of publishing, a hashtag forthe Zara campaign had appeared in more than 55,000 Weibo posts and been readmore than 500 million times.

Several of the country's state-ownednewspapers -- which are often known for criticizing Western companies forsupposed transgressions in China -- also spoke out in defense of the campaign.

Freckles remain a relatively rare sight inChina's fashion and advertising worlds. Notions of beauty are more oftenassociated with smooth, flawless complexions, and skin-whitening products arewidely available in the country.

在中国的时尚和广告界,雀斑仍是一道相对少见的景象。美的观念常与光滑无瑕的皮肤联系在一起,皮肤增白产品在这里也很常见。



Photo retouching is also common on socialmedia, with popular apps like Meitu and BeautyCam allowing users to removeblemishes and even out skin tones.

社交媒体上的修图也很常见,常用的app有美图和美颜相机,用户可以用它们抹去斑点,甚至调整肤色。

China's largest e-commerce website, Taobao,currently lists thousands of different "freckle-removing" creams.Vendors on the site also stock laser pens, liquid nitrogen treatments, supposednatural remedies and other products claiming to eliminate freckles andblemishes.

中国最大的电子商务网站淘宝最近出了一份包含上千款各异的“祛斑”乳霜的清单。网上的商家也准备了激光笔、液氮疗法、所谓的天然疗法和其他据说有祛斑功效的产品。

Zara has not yet responded to CNN's requestfor comment.
