The United States and European unx reacted quite differently to the recent South China Sea arbitration ruling with the European bloc distancing itself from the transatlantic ally’s sharpest approach to the issue. Washington bluntly called on Beijing to respect the legal decision handed out by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague on July 12 as Brussels loosely backed the arbitrators’ work and urged all parties involved to act with restrain and according to the international law.

Some in the U.S. foreign-policy community do advocate transatlantic moves to push China to comply with the arbitration court ruling and assert freedom of navigation and overflight in the area. However pressed by the crises in Ukraine and the Middle East and seriously underfunded NATO appears to be in no position to challenge China in East Asia. Regarding the Western Pacific region in the final communiqué adopted at the Warsaw summit in July 8–9 NATO’s leaders only expressed generic concerns about the nuclear threat coming from North Korea with no hint of the South China Sea problem.

I believe you still have not learned what is "freedom of navigation". Let me give you an analogy. If smoking is allowed in international waters then smoking is not allowed in territorial waters. When somebody smokes in Chinese territorial waters China has the right to interfere telling the guy to butt out. Now according to UNCLOS freedom of navigation (=smoking) is only allowed in international waters. When somebody the US conducts (smokes) freedom of navigation in Chinese (claimed) territorial waters this guy is demonstrating to the world and China in particular that he is traveling in international waters not in any country's territorial waters. He does not recognize China's territorial claim. China's abstention from interference means to the world that China is not claiming the waters as its territory. Now you the self-proclaimed spokesman for China repeatedly told your audience 'there is no interference'. You were telling the world that China does not claim the waters in the 9 dash-line as China's territorial waters? Do you have such an authority?
For what purpose (in order to bully China) was the US faking? ...Nonsense.

Many are already U.S. citizens not PRC nationals anymore and Taiwanese are not Chinese (PRC) nationals. Many that are working in STEM are Taiwanese the "Chinese" group in America have everyone frome other SEA countries and Hong Kong not everyone is from PRC.
It's like lumping all Anglophone countries into one and calling them "English people from England" instead of Americans Australians Canadians New Zealanders or Brittish

All true but things are about to change. China has stolen enough railway technology to build world-class trains so Siemens and related companies are shut-out of the Chinese market. Some Western technology vendors for example AMD have made a deal with the Chinese devil to share their crown jewels but they will soon discover that China plays by very different rules. China's first home-grown airliner the C919 will soon result in no more sales by Boeing and Airbus. China always played the long game while we in the West foolishly lived and died by the quarter (as in corporate results).

How far a country will go depends on how much it's worth to them.
Value is relative.
-To Philippines South China Sea means fishing grounds.
-To Europe South China Sea means nothing.
-To China South China Sea means $5 trillion a year of shipping lanes 90% of which are imports and exports to/from Chinese ports. If someone else (say America) were to control it and chokes it off China is looking at its version of the Great Depression.
They've seen what happened in Iraq Libya Syria and they see Trump might become president next year. They think America cannot be trusted to not slit someone else's throat they think that only China can be trusted to not slit its own throat.
How far do you think they'll go to defend their own lifeline? The rational answer is: all the way.
How far is America willing to go to defend "freedom of navigation" aka American control of China's lifeline? That's complicated because it depends on how much it's worth to America which is complicated.
-To America South China Sea is worth whatever the idea of American Global Cop is worth. It's an idea it's not a value that can be measured so there is no rational answer.

All of these articles are full of nonsense. All the U.S. and Europe need to do to force China to act like a civilized country is to stop the importation of Chinese goods. China's economy would grind to a halt without Western money. But we won't do it because of uber-capitalists such as Jeff Bezos of Amazon the Walton family of Walmart Dell Home Depot Apple and many others earning obscene amounts via outsourcing.

Chinese exports are mainly cheap value based consumer goods. They'll sell anywhere on the world market easily. They will displace consumer goods production of a third country (many actually) who will export their production to US with a price hike. Americans will end up paying more money for the same goods just imported from a different country.
American exports are mainly luxury goods and financial services. If your current customer base in China don't buy it much of it won't be transferred to another market and will be lost for good.
Case in point: Chinese tire tariffs - After implementation Americans now import their tires from Mexico. Total tire imports in terms of dollars rose (because Mexican tires cost more than Chinese ones) in terms of numbers stayed the same (because we still use that many tires). Mexicans now enjoy cheap Chinese tires. Great deal for us right?
