Around 1,800 people from the Chinese community in France took part in a march near Paris Sunday calling for greater security after a deadly robbery earlier this month.

大约1800名法国华人周日在巴黎附近举行游行，要求加强治安，因为就在本月早些时候发生了一起致命的抢劫案。

To cries of "Liberte, egalite, fraternite" ("liberty, equality, fraternity"), demonstrators marched through the northern Paris suburb of Aubervilliers where Zhang Chaolin, a 49-year-old tailor died after being set upon by three thieves on August 7.

The trio had tried to snatch a bag belonging to a friend of Zhang, who died a few days later from injuries sustained in the altercation.

这三名小偷想夺走张的一个朋友的包包，几天后他因伤死亡。

"There are frequent attacks but we don't sue because we don't speak good French. And, we're working, we don't have time," said one protester, 26-year-old Paris bar worker Cai Jiang.

“经常有袭击发生，我们没起诉，因为我们法语不好。我们也要工作，所以也没时间，”26岁的抗议者蔡江说道，他在巴黎一家酒吧里上班。

"We are appealing to the state because we are French citizens, even if we don't feel that we are considered as such," said another participant, 23-year-old shop owner Marina.

The protesters flew several French flags during the demonstration.

I took a skim through the comments here. The level of xenophobia in this country (US) is unreal. No wonder Chinese Americans vote Democratic even though the democrats don't give a #$%$ about them and that affirmative action hurts them substantially. At least their constituents don't spew hateful and ignorant stuff like the comments here. This is how you alienate minority voters whose cultural values otherwise perfectly align with fiscal conservatives.

I sympathize but I also really doubt they are French citizens. These are mainlanders and they arrived over the last 4-5 years. There are many Chinese in Europe who simply overstay their visas because they can get work at Chinese-owned places. Some of these places are shady businesses and/or illegal btw, if you get my drift. Having said that, they should be protected from violence.

In America, many Chinese immigrants don't speak English and in France they don't try to speak French. And French is the national language of the country where as English is not the official language in The United States.

In other words, they refuse to learn the French language so the tax-payers must pay for a police translator, and police have stepped up security in the area, yet they're demanding more? They want special treatment like many minority groups.

I hear China is VERY safe maybe they should consider returning home where the language would not be any problem I would think they would have to work in China harder than they probably do in France. Have they heard of neighborhood watch groups? They have time to march but not time to file cases at the police station.
