TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen on Monday urged China to engage in talks pledging to maintain peace with the island's giant neighbor amid a near five-month impasse after Beijing halted official communications with the self-ruled island.

However Tsai in her first National Day speech stopped short of conceding a crucial principle that Beijing has said is needed for talks to resume that Taiwan is a part of China also referred to between the two sides as the "1992 consensus".

但是，蔡英文在她上台后的首次国庆讲话中，并没有承认92共识。之前大陆方面放话，想和大陆谈，台湾方面得先继续认可92共识，承认台湾是中国的一部分。

Tsai's proponents have said she has been holding out olive branches to China but also choosing her words carefully so as not to lose her key anti-China support base at home.

蔡英文的支持者说，小英已经向大陆伸出橄榄枝啦，只是措辞很小心，免得失去岛内反大陆核心阵营的支持。

"The two sides of the Strait should sit down and talk as soon as possible" Tsai said in her address referring to the Taiwan Strait that separates the island from the mainland.

When dealing with a democracy if you don't like the designated government just shift your support to the opposition. It is justified because everything is of the people by the peoply for the people or as it were.
Ukraine is the latest exempli gratia and Taiwan would be the next.
Question1: Why Germany is still a democracy even though Angla Merkel has been in office for 11 years? FYI Hitler's record was 12 years.
Q2: USA has had 2 Bushes as presidents and it is about to have 2 Clintons as presidents. If there's a third President Bush or Clinton does it make North Korea a democracy?

Once you accepted China's name for Taiwan in order to join China's AIIB Taiwan becomes part of China. That was China's trick and you fell for it. Now you are complaining about for not been invited to any meetings and conferences. It is your problem and you need to fix it immediately.

Taiwan is OBVIOUSLY not part of China. Or at least It is obvious to anyone educated outside of China!
Taiwan's presidents are chosen by (and they thus represent) the 26 million Taiwan citizens in free fair multi-party elections in a country where people say print and read whatever they want.
Who chooses China's presidents? Who do THEY represent? Only about a 100 or so CCP politburo members! And that's in a country where only one party (and only one set of ideas) is allowed.
What this means that Taiwan's president is a much more legitimate leader.
Unlike China Taiwan is a good and peaceful neighbor and does not make threats toward any other country in the world.
China will probably never catch up to Taiwan in terms of freedoms and democracy. But if it does then Taiwanese people may in the future decide to consider forming some kind of equal federation with China... but not before.
Modern and free nations cannot form federations with one-party authoritarian governments that threaten to invade their neighbors jail dissidents and that still have 100s of millions of people in poverty.

台湾显然不是中国的一部分。或者至少对在中国以外受过教育的任何人来说显然不是。

Beijing has repeated called Tsai to be conscious of the will of Chinese people across the Straits and uphold "One China" principle. UN recognizes one and only one seat for China. Washington DC adheres to "One China" policy. The civil war ended in 1949 time for the Chinese to reconciliate. It is not wise for politicians in "Taiwan authority of China" to stick out as separatists.

No country is willing to stick its neck out for Taiwan. Since Taiwan is not economically independent or have military forces that can protect her the future outlook is not great without China.
