Hm now that would be an interesting debate - which country is shittier Russia or China?
Both are terrible countries but I think I’d actually prefer living in China. Mostly because Russians can be quite a lot more violent than Chinese.

Another important reason is that it is relatively easy to migrate to Canada/Australia for anyone who has university level education plus some professional work experience and English language skills Thanks to their points based immigration system.
Russia doesn't have such straightforward path for immigration. And neither does the us for that matter.

Not me but a friend. He is chinese and moved to Moscow for school. He lived there for two years and throughout his time there suffered blatant racism (seemingly systematic) by professors students and strangers. His experience very much was effected by that. Additionally the food weather and language barriers were very hard to overcome. He has since moved to the US and couldn’t be happier.
Besides cultural differences the US and Canada has a long history of Chinese immigration. Many Chinese people I know if not relate to Chinese expats are curious about their lives and that certainly impacts their choice.

There’s more opportunities in a wealthier country than a poor country for most people. Plus Australia and Canada have a immigration system while Russia is not known for being an immigration country. In other words. the barrier to entry is higher in Russia but the rewards are lower.
