When I was studying in Australia I came back to China during every semester break and there was one thing I found interesting every time back home:

I was unable follow the conversions of my friends because there were too many new terms emerged and then my friends had to lecture me what was the meaning of the new term and its origin.

With the high rate of Internet penetration the Chinese are creating numerous new words these years 中国网络流行语列表 many of them have been officially recognized by New China Dictionary (新华字典) 《新华字典》吸纳网络新词彰显责任意识_时政频道_新华网 which is upxed every single year.

这些年，随着互联网普及率的增高，中国创造了无数的新词。其中许多词已被正式收入新华字典，而且每一年都在更新。

For those who argue that the Chinese language is lack of creativity because the characters are fixed I’d say you clearly have no idea how the Chinese characters are constructed. The creativity of Chinese languages comes from ‘new terms’ instead of ‘new characters’ and the meaning of a character is fluid.

对于有些人因为汉字是固定的方块字，就认为汉字缺乏创造性，我要说的是你显然根本就不知道汉字是怎么构成的。中国语言的创造力来自于“新词”而不是“新字”，而且汉字的含义是流动的。

All languages are equally complex they just differ in their own complexities.

All languages are equally creative to create new ways of talking about their culture. All languages have “slang” words and phrases that come into use and then disappear.

At advanced levels Chinese is surely as good as any other at conveying meaning in its own way.

However one thing I will say is what a friend of mine once said: The best rule with Chinese is to say things as obvious and simple as possible.

Sometimes I’m surprised by just how straight-forward Chinese people talk. I get confused because I want to add various adjectives and things to illustrate a sentence but in everyday Chinese it just isn’t needed.

As a non-native speaker I find Chinese to be less expressive than other languages. But don’t get me wrong it’s very expressive.

I don’t want to start an argument as to why it is or is not as expressive. I will just make my argument through simple mathematics.

Chinese being based on characters and a fixed set of syllables lacks the ability to create new words.

For example in English we can say YOU JUST GOT PWND! PWND is a very interesting word. Or shart (combination of shit and fart) is a very funny word. These types of expressions do not seem very apparent at least to me.

yes English and other language can create a new word at random by their letters，but Chinese can create any new word logically，especially in science and technology.(i know English has root and affix，but it is not very common，in Chinese，you can guess many new words correctly )

Almost all of the English science and technology words have corresponding Chinese words. Chinese can be a combination of multiple characters into a new word so the Chinese is flexible and creative.

几乎所有的英语科技词汇都有对应的中文词。中文可以组合多个字组成一个新词，所以中文是灵活而有创造性的。
