Mexico on Monday withdrew its offer of aidto the United States to help victims of Hurricane Harvey, saying thoseresources are now needed at home as Mexico recovers from a separate hurricaneand a devastating earthquake.

While aid has arrived inmany of the hardest-hit regions, where thousands of homes were reduced torubble, local media have reported that in some places, survivors are stillwaiting for help.

In its statement about rescinding aid onMonday, Mexico’s Foreign Ministry made a special point to thank Abbott, whoafter the earthquake pledged to “stand with Mexico and offer whatever aid andassistance we can to help them recover after this disaster.”
