I visited California last year and I agree. California is a terrible place(shithole). Yet California is the most popular place for Chinese immigrants. Why? While I will admit that even California is several steps up from China. Why not move to a nice part of America? Especially since most new immigrants from China have the money to live anywhere.

Because the chinese who can afford to move there arent living in the tent cities on Figueroa.
Palos Verdes, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Culver City are pretty far from shitholes.

I get what your saying about certain places in California being nicer than others. I agree. However, the cost of living in those places, especially the real estate, is so overpriced. Buying a decent place in Cali is is the same as buying a mansion somewhere else. Same for a place like NYC. What you get for the money is crap compared to what you would get elsewhere. I personally would never want to live in either place but then again, I'm a very frugal person. I wouldnt pay 20$ for a "hamburger" in Cali, if I know the same 20$ would get me "steak and lobster" elsewhere. Just my opinion.

No. Thats not what I'm saying. I'm saying that if I can afford a huge waterfront house with a pool, lots of land, clean air, safe etc. For the same price as a tiny house or apartment in Cali. I would choose the nicer place. Even if I could afford a place in Beverly hills, I would see it as a waste of money to pay so much for the location of the house rather than the house itself. I dont see the point of paying so much and getting so little in return but to each his own.

Those are waterfront houses in Winter park, FL. Cheaper, bigger, and much nice
I went house shopping in both places with a client of mine last year. After looking at the housesprices in both places. I would rather spend less and get more in a less polluted and crowded place like Winter Park. Much better than spending more on a house thats not as nice and in a crowded and polluted place like LA.

Because you can have a high quality of life anywhere when you have money hanging out the anus and people that have the ability to emigrate to the US generally have money hanging out of seven anuses. When you have that much money, or that many anuses, living in California can be absolutely amazing, especially when there's already a large enough Chinese diaspora in large cities such as LA and SF to cater to your every whim and need.

Cali being on the other side of the Pacific also makes it much more attractive. Same reason why Vancouver is so popular. Flying back for visits are much easier.

Cali is a bit of a mess from a European perspective but if you are rich and Asian it’s the place to be. But I agree with others that apart from a few posh coastal areas it’s very far from an ideal place for overall quality of life.
