Thanks it's indeed obvious to anyone and not just talking about STD. Look at where countries from Chad to Afghanistan stand on a global rating on and you'll see how such superstitions are just a part of bad health care combined with ignorance.

My hometown. Wtf Kunming? I remember 九州医院had an ad about abortion like ten years ago or more. The patient was laying on the hospital bed and asked the nurse 开始了吗？and the nurse said 已经结束了.

There are ads like these everywhere like pollution. I mean not exactly curcumcising but andrology infertility abortion etc. The reason behind is that this type of surgery is not included in the Chinese medical issurance for every citizen. Private hospitals can establish price more freely and make profit out of this type of business.

I think some people have had their foreskin chopped off so they're pretty committed to the pro side whereas others still have intact weewees so they're firmly in the opposite camp. Most people don't want to think that their weewee is the wrong sort of weewee.
As for legitimate arguments in favor of the practice: as far as I can tell they've mostly been made obsolescenct by modern medicinal and sanitary norms.
