Are Australia and New Zealand under China’s sphere of influence or America’s?

The acid test is if China and the US were to declare war with each other how would Australia and New Zealand respond? My hunch is that Australia would ally itself with the USA while NZ would remain neutral. China is NZ’s second largest trading partner after Australia and trade is growing. The US is our fourth largest. Aggregating all the trading parners under China's sphere, or neutral, against all those under US influence or neutral - but assuming as a non aligned country, even if the US sanctioned us, Australia would continue to trade with its closest neighbour — would probably leave the Chinese bloc ahead, still. It would hurt us more to side with USA than be neutral. All this is hypothetical thankfully.

I don’t know about New Zealand, but for Australia I’d say both. But not exclusively both. There are other nations whose cultures and economies affect us also.
Australia’s economy is greatly influenced by China. As such many policies and practices in industry reflect the importance of that industry. The US affects our economy also, but not to the same extent.
Culturally, however, we’re more influenced by the US. Although that is not exclusive either. But lots of our fashions and interests are influenced, if not dictated, by US culture.
As others have stated British culture greatly influences ours also. I’d say that lots of Australians feel more affinity with British, New Zealand and even Canadian humour, priorities and sensibilities than we do with Americans.
So I think the answer is both, but not exclusively in any sphere and not to the exclusion of others. I’d say this is true of most countries today. The world is getting smaller and globalisation is a real thing.

Ah, you are in luck! Just today the UN Human Rights Council voted on a resolution to “urgently dispatch an independent, international commission of inquiry" to probe the deadly shootings of Gaza protesters by Israeli forces. This is a good test case because the underlying issue has nothing to do with Australia’s own national interest. So it’s strictly a matter of pleasing some other country. The actors you listed above - the US, China, and the Great Britain, voted in 3 different ways. Look for your self who Australia followed. Here is the factual evidence for your inquiry.

Hillary Clinton is sounding the alarm over China's efforts to covertly interfere with politics worldwide
China, sadly but they are moves afoot to limit their influence.New Zealand is chained to China economically due to the Free Trade agreement we are so proud of but it's a double edged sword. Cheep chinese imports are deviation our small industry and manufacturing sector and highstreet retailers suffers from eBay duty-free purchases from China.
Australia economicy is now dependent on mineral resources exports to China for their manufacturing boon but China repeatedly tries to gain more control over all sides of this supply chain as the don't want any one profiting but themselves.
Interesting a decade ago Australia's second largest industry was Education of overseas students but this collapsed almost overnight based on a scare mongering campaign alleging systematic xenophobic attacks of foreign students, dispite only a few isolated incidents, thus Australia's economy suddenly became directly dependent on exports to China…? Coincidence???

My guess would be neither. If anybody’s, it’s probably Britain’s. Yes, it’s the other side of the planet, but most people would be of some British descent.
