The hulking, 135 metre-long ships travel through the oceans at 27 knots and can destroy targets 50km away.They are armed with cruise missiles and rocket launchers but were in London on a  goodwill tour of Europe

Two state-of-the-art Chinese warships sailed up the Thames yesterday as part of a goodwill tour of European ports.
The type 54A frigates Huanggang and Yangzhou cost a massive ￡180million each and arrived at West India Dock an hour apart on Monday.
The hulking, 135-metre ships had earlier caused a stir when seen sailing past Canary Wharf.

这两艘最先进的中国军舰昨日驶入泰晤士河，这是他们对欧洲港口进行友好访问的一部分。54A号黄冈号护卫舰和扬州号护卫舰分别花费1.8亿英镑打造而成，并于周一抵达西印度码头停靠了一个小时。这两艘庞大的，135米长的船舰早些时候从金丝雀码头驶过，引发了一阵骚动。

Yangzhou (pictured) is named after a Chinese city and cost a massive ￡180million to build. Armed with cruise missiles, the ships can hit targets up to 50km away and specialise in destroying ships and submarines

But thankfully for us, they arrived in the capital from Antwerp in Belgium as part of their European goodwill tour.

Built in China,  Huanggang and Yangzhou are named after Chinese cities and weigh 4,000 tons each, with a top speed of around 27 knots. The cannon at the front can fire 120 rounds per minute and they can house up to 165 crew members.  

在中国建造，黄冈号和扬州号以两座中国城市命名，重约4000吨，最高时速约为27海里。舰船前部的火炮可以在每分钟发射120发炮弹，战舰最多可容纳165名机组人员。

This isn't the first time Chinese ships have been in English waters.In July, the Royal Navy escorted a flotilla of warships through the English Channel to shadow three ships as they made their way to the Baltic Sea.

这不是第一次中国舰队驶入英国海域了。今年7月份时候，英国皇家海军就曾派出三艘军舰护送一支前往波罗的海的中国舰队通过英吉利海峡。

Big joke from the mail and all the pointless commentators. Its frigate. Big deal. They (eg the types 054/054A) first was was built in 2007. So a design going back beyond 10 years. As ever the mail go over the top bonkers with stories like this peddling their notion that they are some sort of super ship. Its not - its run of the mill. China tried to sell 3 to Thailand for $1 billion but in the end Thailand went to South Korea! Janes Fighting Ships says its 3500 tonnes. Just a frigate! The RN new type 26 being built are 7000 tonnes. The current Type 23 is about 5000 tonnes.
