Families of the Titanic victims have called plans to build a replica of the ship 'upsetting' as it's revealed the owner of the Chinese theme park previously wanted to create a simulator so visitors could relive the crash.

Members of the British Titanic Society said the £105 million replica, planned at the Romandisea resort was 'in bad taste'.

The Chinese firm told the BBC the attraction would be 'respectful'.

Shaojun Su, chief executive of Yongle Seven Star Cultural Tourism Development Company, spoke at a convention of the British Titanic Society and told those there the liner had many fans in China after the 1997 Leonardo DiCaprio film.

At the convention, held at the end of last week in Southampton, Jean Legg, whose father was a steward on board, said: 'They are using the Titanic because of the tragedy - it's upsetting.

'My dad lived to be nearly 90 and the sights and sounds of people fighting for their lives stayed with him to the end of his days.

'If he knew this was being replicated, I think he'd be turning in his grave.'

Robert Burr, the grandson of a steward who lost his life, said the replica didn't 'suit the situation'.

Bruce Beverage is the owner of an American firm hired to design the attraction. He claims he had to convince Mr Su a '6D experience' simulator of the tragedy would be too much.

The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912, when it made its maiden voyage from Southampton.

It had been at sea for five days when it struck the iceberg, and more than 1,500 people died.

The last survivor, Millvina Dean, died in June 2009, aged 97. She had been the youngest passenger aboard the liner, just two-months-old.

She was in lifeboat 10 with her mother and brother, some of the first off the doomed ship.

Qixing Energy Investment Group first revealed their plan of spending 1 billion Yuan (£105 million) to rebuild the luxury liner in January 2014.

The replica will be permanently docked on the Daying Qi river and is due to open in 2019. The resort should take its first visitors by October this year.

Back in 1912, the original ship cost £4.9 million to build, the equivalent to about £110 million today.

Guests will have to pay 3,000 Yuan (£315) a night for a cabin on board the ship, while more expensive rooms will cost around 100,000 Yuan.

There will be ballroom dancing, pool parties, and Las Vegas style entertainment on the ship to transport guests back to 1912.

罗伯特·布尔的祖父是死于沉船事故的“泰坦尼克”号船上的水手，他也以同样的理由反对游乐项目。他说，“这么做不合适。”（参考消息网）

Majority of the pasengers were of British and European descent. The park is in China. Not likely many of you will even be in the country and if you are, don't go and boycott the park because this will have an enormous impact on the days ticket sales. Dumb @ss
