Although manyChinese hate Japan. There are a batch of Chinese young people, who enjoyJapanese manga/cartoon/movie/dramas, don't hate Japan. But they are minority.
But in Vietnam, aconsiderable percentage of Vietnamese young people enjoy Chinese drama/movies/novels,but still hate China.
How can thishappen?

You might want tolook into the matter more fundamentally. The drama/movies/novels are arts,literature and philosophy. I think it's safe to assume that those of China,since ancient time have has great impact on Asian culture and they know noboundaries.
'The Vietnamesepeople hate China' is a premise (though need solid verification) drawn strictlyin the sense of politics and sovereign. People would not be any inconsistent ifthey hold a political view against a regime while enjoying arts/literature/philosophyfrom that country.
Same principleapplied, and I'll try to push the matter to the extreme, do you think thatthose who hate the Nazis (Germany) should not enjoy J.S.Bach (he'sGerman)? I personally think no.

It should beclear at the outset that we do not hate China and its culture but simply do notaccept the way Chinese Government treats, or more precisely bullies, smallneighbors.
In fact, we verymuch enjoy Chinese dramas, movies, novels and even calligraphy. As a matter ofhistory, our culture and way of life have been heavily influenced by theChinese more than any countries in South East Asia even Singapore due to nearly1000 years of its rule.
To explain ourabove attitude, we consider ourself people with “innate knowing” and “inbornability”, values that were developed by 02 Chinese great philosophers - Mengziand WangYangming. Put it simply, this is the human ability to tell thedifference between the good and the evil. Our love for a country’s rich culture is not shadowed by the attutidueof its Government to our land and that makes us slightly different from someyoung Chinese.
P/S: We love theclassic masterpieces of Chinese culture, mainly books, not the present oneswhich in our view are not worth reading or watching. You may know the answerfor this.

People hate thefact that the Chinese government is trying to steal our land and exploit ournatural resources. The Chinese entertainment industry has little to do with that.
In terms ofculture, traditions, social norms and expectations,China and Vietnam have a lot in common. That's why Vietnamese people can relateto Chinese dramas and movies.

I agree with Pham'sanswer: You don't need to love people to love their art. But, I think we needto make a distinction here. There are many Chinese drama,movies and novels that appeal to the cultural similarities between Vietnam andChina. Recently, I watched movies such as Hero (2002) and Red Cliff(2006-2007). They were historical fictions that reminded us about themes andideas we all care about. In that regard, such works appealed to the sharedheritage of all East Asia including Vietnam and China. That explains whyVietnamese find it acceptable to love their country AND love the movies.

Mostly becausethey can relate to Chinese culture and because they were introduced to it froma young age.
I grew upwatching ancient Chinese dramas with my grandma. As a little girl I loved thehairstyle and fancy dresses of those Chinese princesses and noble girls eventhough I did not understand much about the storyline. Because which little girldoesn't like long princess dresses, dangly jewelleriesand fancy hair?
And the Chinesedramas that my grandma likes to watch have a lot of princesses, queens,empresses and rich beautiful women with fancy dresses, servants and beautifulhouses. They have a rule for everything, including how to drink tea, what tosay, how to kneel when you meet your superior. I was fascinated with thesestuff, as was many of my friends. We used to tear down our curtains and wrappedourselves in blankets to achieve the Chinese princess look.
Think Barbie - The princess and the pauper or the Tudors(but multiply by 10). Except there are at least 5 princesses, 10 queens toobsess over in Chinese dramas
Another categoryof Chinese dramas that I was exposed to when young was Chinese fairiesdramas. Again which little girl doesn't love fairies and magic?
When I was alittle older, I discovered that the dialogs in Chinese dramas are much deeper,more complicated than in American movies. The characters are full of plots andhidden intentions. The characters are much more evil and cunning. Vietnamesejust love these Chinese style dialogs, where meaning is implied rather thanexpressed. My mother would just play a Chinese drama and listen to it while shecooks.
Chinese dramasalso have a lot of ancient proverbs which are used in everyday Vietnamese,because Vietnamese borrowed them from Chinese. So when watching a drama,Vietnamese find the dialogs very entertaining, because it is full of poetry.
Chinese dramasalso appeal to everyone in society. Because women love palace dramas, men lovekungfu and war dramas and children love things like the Monkey King. Overallbecause of the cultural similarities, Vietnamese are very receptive to Chinesecultural products. Even Chinese traditional music is very popular and wellliked

我是和外婆一起看着中国电视剧长大的。作为一个小女孩我喜欢那些中国公主和贵族女孩的发型和美丽衣服，虽然我基本不知道演的是什么内容。可是哪个小女孩会不喜欢公主服，闪光的珠宝和美丽的发型呢?
而我外婆爱看的中国电视剧里有好多身着美丽服饰的公主，名媛，皇后和美丽的贵妇人，还有佣人和漂亮的房子。她们做什么都讲规矩，包括怎么喝茶啦，该说什么话啦，遇到比你级别高的人怎么下跪啦。这些东西都让我着迷，我很多朋友也和我一样。我们曾经把窗帘扯下来，把自己用毯子包起来，然后把自己打扮成中国公主的样子。
想象一下芭比娃娃，《王子与贫儿》或者《都铎王朝》（但是要再乘以十）。差不多就是这个意思，只不过中国的电视剧里有至少五个公主，十位名媛可以让我们去迷恋。
我很小的时候接触过的另一类中国电视剧是中国的神话电视剧。这里还要再说一次，有哪个小女孩会不喜欢仙女和魔法？
当我长大一点后，发现中国电视剧里的对话比美国电影里的更高深，更复杂。电视剧里的角色们充满了阴谋和诡计，更加的邪恶和狡猾。越南人就喜欢这种中国式的对话，意思要含着不能明说出来。我妈做饭的时候就会放中国电视剧听。
中国电视剧里还有很多越南人日常使用的古代谚语，因为这些谚语都是越南从中国学来的。所以越南人看中国电视剧的时候觉得对话非常有趣，充满了诗意。
中国电视剧对所有越南人都有吸引力。女人们爱看宫廷剧，男人们爱看功夫和战争剧，越南人对中国文化产品的接受度非常的高。甚至中国传统音乐在越南也非常流行很受喜爱。
