A Chinese property owner who has refused to sell up her house to the government for seven years has finally agreed to move for £1.8 million.

Ms Yang's seven-storey building was the only house left on a plot earmarked in 2010 for the construction of a new train station.

Ms Yang said she had been worn out after seven years of negotiation with the government and decided to give in. The building was demolished on November 16

No compulsory purchase orders in Communist China. They need to learn from the UK.

I would have rather had another building too £1.8 million does seem like a lot but taking into consideration the rental income from a building in that area once developed it¿s probably a bum deal.

See how China is changing. 30 years ago they would have forcibly removed him without compensation.

Shame progress almost always means digging up something beautiful. Without those encroaching high rises, her old building (and the already demolished neighbours) must've been surrounded by beautiful greenery. I don't know how she didn't go mad with the constant building noise... certainly tougher than our lot collecting their daily expenses in the commons.

Shame. An individual rinsing tax payers for her own selfish needs. Standing in the way of progress and holding everything up for years.

In the Uk she would have got a fraction of this huge amount. She has done really well by holding out for seven years.

She got a fairer deal in communist China than she'd ever get in the UK, where bent councils, in the pockets of developers, would seek a compulsory purchase order.
