A Chinese woman who saw her mother being mauled to death by a protected tiger has demanded a 1.55 million yuan payout (£175,000) from a safari park in Beijing.

北京八达岭动物园老虎伤人案，中国女子索赔155万元

The deceased woman, Ms Zhou, was trying to save her daughter, Ms Zhao, who had stepped out of their car in the animal enclosure and got dragged away by a hungry beast last year.

Ms Zhou was killed instantly while Ms Zhao sustained serious injuries and was apparently left disabled.

2016年，北京八达岭野生动物世界东北虎园内发生一起老虎伤人事件。当时，游客赵女士中途下车后，被老虎拖走，其母周女士下车去追时遭老虎撕咬。该事件造成周女士死亡，赵女士受伤。

Ms Zhao said through the lawsuit she wants to prove that the Beijing Badaling Wildlife Park should bear part of the responsibility of the incident.

赵女士表示，通过起诉，她要证明北京八达岭野生动物世界有限公司应对这起事件承担部分责任。

Previous official investigation ruled that the incident was not an accident caused by safety concerns at the park.

之前的官方调查裁决，该事件并非是动物园的安全责任

The court case started today in Beijing, according to Xinhua News Agency.
