A disabled sanitation worker has moved the Chinese public after getting to work at 4am every day for 12 years - be it rain or shine, snow or sleet.

Shang Wuyi, 46, cannot hear or speak and has only one leg, but his disabilities have never stopped his passion for work.

One colleague claimed Mr Shang has never taken a single day off after being tasked to sweep four streets in Xi'an, a provincial capital of China.

Mr Shang said that he loves working because he was born on May 1, which is the International Workers' Day, according to People's Daily Online, citing the local Huashang Newspaper.

He sweeps the roads with the help of a walking stick, and is more hardworking than any of his colleagues.

Mr Shang's wife Wang Yaqin is also a road sweeper, and she works alongside her husband.

The couple, who have been married for 21 years, are required to sweep four streets, which are about 1,000 metres (3,280 feet) long in total.

Dude has no choice. In China work or if your family can't support you then you starve and die.

And in the west we have people confined to their beds because they'e eaten themselves into immobility. A benefit culture can go too far.

And just yesterday I saw a very strong and healthy looking 19 year old asking for hand outs on a street corner. This man is what pride and hard work is all about.

If this man lived in Britain, first of all, the council where he lived wouldn`t allow him to do the job for "health & safety" reasons, that obstacle aside, the second thing is that if he did manage to do such a job, he would have to endure no end of irritating people asking him why he can`t get a "nice little desk job somewhere", and "aren`t there any big strong able bodied men who could do that rather than you?" and other such tiresome questions. Such is Britain.

That is work ethic ... for those who have NOT lived through hard times, famine or war, they will never understand why some people are glad to work ... because it means you have money to buy things - in a lot of countries there is NO state help - if you have no money - you starve
