Airbus has said it will have no other choice but to halt thecostly A380 programme if Dubai's Emirates airline does not place another order.

The European aerospace giant's sales director, John Leahy, told anews conference on Monday that it will stop making the superjumbo if it can'tstrike a long-term deal with the airline for a steady supply of the planes.

This isn't surprising. I found it a curious development thatAirbus pursued this super-jumbo, as it was quite obvious that the airlineindustry was changing. The old hub and spoke method of air travel was beingreplaced by point-to-point air travel. That much was obvious. So why did Airbusbet so much on a big airliner? It's always easier when a new product is heavilysubsidized and any losses can be written down. I think even many Airbusexecutives saw this coming.

The A380 is an incredible marvel but in todays world, I think itwill be a massive challenge to keep production, many airlines are going for the787s which are more fuel efficeint, and more mid range aircraft are provingmore popular with the airlines such as A320neo and 737max
