You become more open minded and independent …start respecting people. Small things such as holding door for a person above below or at a same stature. By stature I mean, age, financial health as well as designation. You will find CEO who has met you once and have arrived at the same time, will hold door and wait and say hi to you irrespective of the fact that you are 10 levels below him/her. These are small things but says a lot about how humanity exits.
In India if you see a laborer, you would for example say “chal hat” . The dignity of labor is the key thing you start realizing. There is also a respect for opposite sex, creed, religion, etc. outside. One of the root cause in my opinion is quality of education that is holistic and not maths and science or fight amongst state language driven. Yes, there is a true games or physical education period not taken by lagging science teacher there.
Yes,these days you see some incidents but even then a community cannot refuse housing to you just because you eat meat or you are not a Christian unlike India where you see lots of people being refused to buy homes even if they are capable of, just coz of their religion or caste . Trust me, there is a lot of negative sentiment towards NRIs in India because of their success and suddenly they are taught “patriotism” by the people who themselves do nothing.
Corruption. you cannot get things done without corruption. Call a bank, utility company, ID card services and see how they harass you. While abroad, Utilities, banking etc happens swiftly. This is where “peace” of mind comes in to play where you tend to focus on core work and family over these day to day hassles. Life is too precious to think and spend more time on these.
Lastly, ethics. Yes, there is a capitalism and people are in their own world but people are generally ethical, unlike India where the society and experience teaches you that “ethics” is something only for stupid people. In India, we do not like responsibility and accountability that comes with power, we like power to abuse. The intent is an issue.

Master’s degree - Engineer living in Europe for the last 6 years! My Probable reasons:
1. Good Pay
2. Travel time to work: I take 15 min by bicycle to work and in the Netherlands there are “Bike lanes” -Safe, Healthy and Quick commute → My friend in B’lore on a very rainy day spent 6 hours in the cab.
3. Work-life balance: Start at 8:45 ish and step out 17:25ish. Still flexible. Almost never work on a weekend.
4. Health Conscious: Majority do some form of fitness or do sports.
5. Hobbies: People have one or more hobbies - dancing, music, climbing, skiing blah blah blah…
The other answers below cover very well about other aspects with some good examples :). There are also things that We have to give up living abroad.

1.一份好的报酬;
2.上班的时间:我骑自行车上班15分钟,而且在荷兰有“自行车道”-- 安全、健康和快速的通勤;我在班加罗尔的朋友有次在雨天,打出租车花了6个小时才到公司;
3.工作--生活的平衡:早上08:45开始工作,下午17:25下班,而且灵活安排工作时间。几乎从不在周末工作;
4.健康意识:大多数人做某种形式的健身或运动;
5.爱好:人们有一个或多个爱好--跳舞,音乐,攀岩,滑雪之类的等等;

Thanks, Neel for the A2A. Some reasons are quite a cliche’. Many people after comparing the lives in foreign land and back home in India, make this choice not to go back.
Better standard of life. In terms of better and clean roads, cleaner air quality, cleaner water quality, cleaner surroundings and a lot more progressive society in general than in India.
Not to say that India doesn't have good places to live, but they are very limited. Yes, there are many great societies and community for living in India which has great infrastructure and the whole gentry is great. But, when you have to go out of that community, you end up into the same problems for which people leave India to come and settle in foreign lands.
For some people, it is also because of hassle of moving back and then starting from scratch in India. It is not easy to leave your decent paying jobs in a foreign land and then sell everything and go back to India. Also, you have to buy and start everything from scratch when you go back.
For some people, it is the salary. When you calculate the cost of living difference between say working and living in Bangalore to NY city; some people find it that it's easier to buy/rent an accommodation in NJ or NY and save some money. In India if you are not earning good amount of money, it is very difficult to survive in an A-class city like Bangalore or Gurgaon.
For very people, and they will never agree to it openly, it is also something to do with respect and stature. For them, it is very difficult to beat the competition from India to come and live in a foreign land. And now to go back is more like- what will society say? May term them as losers etc. So, to avoid that embarrassment, some people continue to live and work in foreign land.

Many people will also agree that they don't want to go back because in a foreign land, there is still less corruption in every aspect of life compared to India. And most of them had seen and beat all that a lot before moving out from India. But, there are some more reasons why they don't return which are sometime assumed in India as arrogance of that person not coming back.
After living for a long time in a much better standard of life, it becomes increasingly difficult to settle back in the life you have left some years ago. It's not arrogance or being unpatriotic, it's just more logical and just their personal preference.
Sometimes, people don't acclaimtize to the culture anymore back in India. I have many friends who said it's great to visit India once a year but to live there is now out of bounds for them because they don't understand the living in India anymore. I, personally, don't believe in that but I have never tried doing it so I may not understand it fully.
Kids education. Although, some schools and institutions in India have the education level at par with the western countries but the majority is still the same average type. The NRI’s who had settled outside India couldn't see their kids adjusting to the Indian culture and education system, no matter how good it is.
Some people don't find the same kind of jobs and career prospects in India. There is already a lot of competition in India for first getting into a great college and university and then to find a good job with a multinational company. Hence, many people find it relatively easier to look for options outside India and then stick with it because the work visas gets canceled soon as you would leave for India.

I am not sure whether I am qualified enough to answer this question, But having talked to so many Indians living in Sweden. I can fairly quote some points.
The social life, we Indians generally move to foreign places either in Adulthood or Late teenage. We go out and create a social life at the new place and then how much you try, you kind of start missing out over things. The fear of not having a social life or may be to be able to work on it again.
Wages, Most people thing wages and quality of life in foreign countries are good, which means degradation when you go back to India.
Work life balance, Amazing work life balance and a laid back life in foreign countries allow you to enjoy you life to maximum. I am also enjoying the same.
Opportunities, when we move to foreign, we are in general qualified and talented enough to grab the opportunities, even where they are limited and justify the employers choice by working really hard. Which leads into really nice appreciation.

This is one point which amaze me a lot, people tell me when you go back you will not be able to settle in India, so much dirt, less salary but the point they forget is like we are Indians because there is an India. If most of the People from India think as we think, then India will never be a developed country. We are sort of running away from the problems that are there but not trying to fix them. Is it supposed to make the country better ? I am sure not, we are again selfish, we put us above nation. That is one point which annoys me a lot. Just because India is developing but not developed so we don’t want to go back. There are negatives and positives everywhere but for NRI’s a country other than our own country is always a better one, whether positive or negative.

For me there is only one reason : I fear for my safety in India as a woman. Yes, there are many situations in favor for me because I'm living outside of India. But none of the other reasons are powerful enough to make me want to continue living, where I am now.
Im an Indian woman who spent 22 years of her life in India. I would not want to go back to my own country, unless and until I'm forced by my situations to do so. The years I spent in India as an adult, I feared to be out on the streets after sunset! Why? because I'm a girl! Even in broad daylight, while on a public transport I had to be wary of wandering hands. All around the world, our country has now built up the reputation for being an “unsafe” country for women. I'm not saying crimes against women does not happen in other countries across the world. It feels worse, when you can't feel safe in your own country.

Law enforcement is weak in India and it can never match up to the strict law enforcement that my current residential country provides(UAE). I have taken taxis after midnight, walked on the streets by myself after 3 AM, been to clubs, without having any fear for my safety. This sense of safety provides a kind of freedom, that makes you want to embrace life, not resent it. Yes, there are few odd cases that happen in Dubai as well(may be 2 or 3 cases that comes to the media in a year). And the culprits are caught within days and severely punished. You see, the law enforcement here is so strong, people wouldn't dare break the law. If they did, their life would be at stake! The safest I have felt in my life, is in Dubai. A land far away from home.

I may not totally agree with this question. I believe returning back to India or staying put in a foreign country depends on people and their priorities. I have lived in Norway, United Arab Emirates in the past and currently living in Malvern, USA.Most of the people stay back due to financial reasons. The currency plays a major role. You will find people earning in dollars and sending money to India to secure a future, maintain bank balance or may be buy a house in India. Their kids may be born here in America, be american citizens. Apply for green card, then citizenship and the cycle is never ending. There is no sense of fulfillment. People are constantly on their toes, waiting for newer job offers, applying for OPT or H1B extension. trying to find a better school for their kids, competing on brands of wines which they drink. Always talking about dollar rates vs indian rupee and how much money they made. Buying groceries and day to day items from indian stores. Doing smallest jobs that might even be illegal, to make a style statement that they are in USA and their life is just perfect. Wearing nothing but sarees and kurta pyjama for events. Celebrating all indian festivals, missing home and families back at home all the time especially on events and still people do not want to go back to their roots. It somewhat confuses me but this is the spiraling truth.

I came to US four months ago. I am currently pursuing masters. My entire family is in India. I focus on studies and future job prospects and may be internships but in truth I miss my family the most. I love to stay connected. I see my friends visiting their “cousins” and “aunts” , other family members who are spread across the whole of USA. I also want to meet people and have a good time. I have made up my mind, I love America. It has its own charm. I have spent the last 4 months living the american dream. But when it comes to my family, they are a priority. Once my education is done, I will take a little precious experience from this country and invest it all in India. I do not want to be that person who picks up on problems, I want to come up with a solution. India might feel a little too competitive, and crowded with lesser and diminishing opportunities but at the end it is my home country and I will do all that is in my power to stay connected to my roots. P.S I do not mean to offend any indian living in the States. All of us are trying hard to make ends meet and make a brighter future!

My major reason would be income. Income that is earned in foreign countries would be much more high (read 3-folds minimum) than Indian salary. That means one can fullfill his financial goals earliest and return back. Living as an expat in any country sucks, even if expats are given same rights and benefits as their citizens at the end we are still outsiders. Personally i would prefer to return to my home country and stay in my native after my financial needs are met. Some people stay long since they may have bigger financial needs. Some might just love the foreign country and stay. Some just stay there and renounce Indian citizenship. But for majority of working people it is Money.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again.India is the best place in the world to be if you are rich. But if you are just average middle-class or poor, then India is no place for you to be. You are much better off in the West or Gulf states. It’s a no-brainer! The reason that Indian immigrants mostly don’t return is because of better living standards and greater opportunities abroad that you wouldn’t find at home. Some people do return out of emotional bond with their families and country, but for most people, they become well-settled abroad and accustomed to their new country.
