BEIJING: China is denying reports that it plans to deploy troops to Afghanistan.

Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Wu Qian said Thursday that reports that hundreds of People's Liberation Army soldiers are to man a base in eastern Afghanistan are "simply not true."
