BEIJING: Chinese engineers have completed the structure of what is expected to become the world's highest bridge, local authorities said.

北京：地方当局称，中国工程师已经完成世界最高大桥的结构建设。

The Beipanjiang Bridge, in mountainous southwestern China, soars 565 metres above a river, the Guizhou provincial transport department said in a statement.

位于中国西南部山区的北盘江大桥位于河流上方565米处，贵州省交通部门在一份声明中如是说。

As such it overtakes the Si Du River Bridge in the central province of Hubei to become the world's highest bridge, said the statement posted on Sunday.

将取代湖北四渡河大桥成为世界最高桥。

The two ends of the bridge were linked on Saturday, it added.

The 1,341-metre span is expected to open to traffic at the end of this year and will cut road trips from Liupanshui in Guizhou to Xuanwei in neighbouring Yunnan province from around five hours to less than two, state broadcaster China Central Television reported Monday.

这座1341米长的大桥预计于年底投入使用，将原来贵州六盘水到云南宣威的6小时车程削减为不到2小时。

We have enough talent in India. But, if this project was conceived in India, 1. Opposition would have accused about corruption 2. Environmentalist would have received money from foreign countries for halting any progress and they would have raised a hell to oppose it. 3. Some political parties would have sensed the opportunity and would have moved people to there and started agitation that, we are living for centuries and we want to be rehabilitated. 4. Politicians would have already received money from companies to accept only their tender. China dont have any of these problems...
