BEIJING: A Chinese expert has advised the government here to send more submarines to the Indian Ocean in the face of concerns expressed about China's increasing military presence in the area.

The report reflected China's concerns over the ongoing Malabar naval exercise involving the US, Japan, and India, which involves more than 100 aircraft and 21 vessels.

"China should send more submarines to the Indian Ocean to make concerned countries get used to their presence in that region," Hu Bo, a researcher with Peking University Ocean Strategy Research Centre, told People's Daily, the Communist Party organ.

北京大学海洋战略研究中心的研究员胡波（音译），建议政府多派潜艇去印度洋。

这反应了中国对正在进行的美日印马拉巴尔海军演习的关注，据悉100多架飞机和21艘军舰参与了该演习。

他说，“中国应多派潜艇前往印度洋，让有关国家习惯中国在该地区的存在。”
