NEW DELHI: You may soon be flying regional routes on board a made-in-India aircraft. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has allowed Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL)-manufactured Dornier 228 to be used for civilian flights.

新德里：你或许很快能乘坐一架印度制造的飞机飞上地区航线。印度民航总局已经准许印度斯坦航空公司制造的多尼尔228飞机用于民航飞行。

The 19-seater aircraft has, till now, been used by defence forces and is the first plane to be made in the country for commercial flights.

迄今为止，这种19座的多尼尔228飞机一直为国防部队使用，也将是印度首款用于商业飞行的国产飞机。

HAL may also look at selling this plane for civil use in neighbouring countries such as Nepal and Sri Lanka," the official said.

Great. My advice to HAL in 2002 to enter in to commercial aircraft manufacturing sector took almost 15 years to take shape. Now they should be looking at making 250 seater planes and hydro/ amphibious / water planes, for domestic and international markets.. Good luck.

How can you state it is the first Indian plane? Earlier, HAL had built a commercial plane called HS something. It was a total failure. So much so, even Indian Airlines was not willing to buy it. Let us not gloat over this issue but take care of its airworthiness.
