NEW DELHI: India plans to delay the imposition of retaliatory duties on US goods, the trade ministry said on Thursday, to allow time to resolve disputes that worsened after President Donald Trump imposed tariff hikes on steel and aluminium.

印度贸易部表示，印度计划推迟对美国商品征收报复性关税，以为纠纷的解决腾出时间。此前特朗普总统对钢铝产品加征关税，加剧了两国的纠纷。

An Indian commerce ministry spokesman said the government proposed to put the new tariffs, which were due to go into effect on Aug. 4, on hold.

印度商务部一位发言人表示，政服提议征税新关税，原本预计8月4日生效的，现在推迟了。

Trade differences between India and the United States have been rising since Trump took office. Bilateral trade rose to $115 billion in 2016, but the Trump administration wants to reduce its $31 billion deficit with India, and is pressing Centre to ease trade barriers.
