I am not an expert in this, but i guess corruption happened to us.

The Britishers while ruling, taught us a very important lesson, which was “if you have money, everything can be done”. That’s how the rich clan in India survived during British era. They would generally pay off the Britishers, who would in turn look the other way.

We followed the same principles after Independence as well. Money became more powerful. Politicians and Bureaucrats started hoarding as much as they could (we all know about the Swiss accounts) and common man suffered. Infrastructure was the last thing in our mind then.
