Alex had sent to me fifty four pictures of Changhsha. Their description was in Chinese and there was no accompanying text about Changsha. I searched on the internet about Changsha. Four years ago, I knew nothing about China, not even whether Peking and Beijing were the names of the same town or they are different.

I haven’t really got a satisfactory answer to this even so far, but I know a little about China and know a few of her people. I say, little because, China is so diverse and vast that it's not possible to describe it in a few blogs. It is said that because of this vastness and diversity, whole of it couldn’t come under colonial rule at anytime.

The glossy pictures of the cities tell the story of the progress in the cities but not about the pathetic state of the rural interior where people continue to remain poor. Keeping a harmonious society and focus on a egalitarianism is a challenge for any government ...

Though China is progressing by leaps and bounds as any foreign observer may report after seeing all the glitter in the towns, but still a large portion of it is rural and poor, a large part of it's land unserviced. There is a huge and continuous influx of migrant labour from deep interior to the cities and the rich and poor divide is increasing. This influx keeps its factories running and producing things at unbelievably low prices.

My link with my Chinese readers is in a state of suspension these days. I used to interact with them on QQ. It is a chat forum like Skype or WhatsApp but because of some bug in the software (I suppose it's a technical glitch and not a bug introduced). After I interact with some of them, I get a Message Box saying- That some suspicious activity is noticed on your account, access to it is therefore being restricted.

The subsequent messages are in Chinese, so I don’t know what to do. Though QQ boasts of international clientele, its primary focus is China. I don’t think, problem of access to my QQ account is due to great Chinese monitoring of internet. My intention of mentioning about the problem I am facing is, firstly to inform my fans, secondly to seek some help, if some one can help me rid of this glitch and thirdly to tell QQ team, if my plaint reaches them, that their Software is not for the global community because besides seeing my interaction with the Chinese as suspicious activity, it gives the messages in Chinese only, which only a Chinese literate can read.

There are so many blogs about China, sent to me by the Chinese and I know they must be excitedly waiting to see them published but there are not many peoples reading blogs here these days. I posted Part 1 of this blog three months ago.

I asked one Chinese friend to translate the description accompanying the photos. I have it with me but there is some sequence mismatch. Let me now post the remaining pictures and the text that I had written three months ago.

Former Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji is also Hunanese, as are the late President Liu Shaoqi and the late Marshal Peng Dehuai. Changsha (Changsha) is the capital of Hunan Province. It’s China’s “Star City”. Its history can be traced back to 3000 years.

中国前总理朱镕基也是湖南人，已故国家主席刘少奇和已故元帅彭德怀也是湖南人。长沙是湖南省的省会。它是中国的“星城”。它的历史可以追溯到3000年前。

Tomb relics from the primitive periods showing the earliest human activities have been discovered in this region. During the Spring and Autumn Period (770 B.C. - 476 B.C.), the area developed into an important town within the State of Chu.

Chu was one of the seven warring states that existed before China's unification by Emperor Qin.

After Emperor Qin (the first feudal emperor in China's history) unified the country, the town was set up as a county and it later became the capital city of a state in the early Han Dynasty (206 B.C. – 220).

The tomb excavation site of Mawangdui found in the eastern suburb of the city is a family graveyard from that period. The well preserved mummified remains of a Western Han Dynasty woman have been excavated from the tombs. Thousands of other relics like silk products, paintings, lacquer works, potteries, bamboo slips for writing, weapons and herbs have also been found.

在马王堆东郊发现的墓葬遗址是当时的家族墓地。一具保存完好的西汉妇女干尸从坟墓中被挖掘出来。此外，还发现了数千件其他文物，如丝绸制品、油画、漆器、陶器、书写用的竹简、武器和草药等。

All the relics have now been preserved in Hunan Provincial Museum. The city experienced several expansions and during Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Over the years it developed into the political, economic and cultural center of Hunan Province. Even today, the city has remained at the same site. Some roads and streets that were laid even 2,000 years ago even today remain at the same location.

Therefore Changsha has the honor of having the oldest addresses of streets and roads in Chinese history. Although it is not as ancient as the capital city of Beijing, Nanjing or Xian, yet it has a rich historical heritages including old wall remains, tomb sites, religious temples and buildings. This province was the political, economic, cultural, transportation, and science and education center.

It is important transportation and shipping center and is a famous for its landscapes. Mt. Shaoshan, about 130 kilometers south-west of Changsha is the hometown of Chairman Mao Zedong. Today, the village has become a memorial place for the Chinese.

People erected a statue of the Chairman and have preserved the houses he lived in as a tourist site. Many Chinese come to pay respect and visit here during the memorial days.

However, it was slower than most provinces in adopting the reforms implemented by Deng Xiaoping in the years that followed Mao's death in 1976. What earns the city its reputation among visitors are two things.

One is a great man in recent history, Chairman Mao Zedong and the other is Yuelu Academy. Yueleu is a time-honored academic school perched on the scenic Yuelu Mountain. Originally built in 976 during the Song Dynasty, the academy school survived through the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties and is considered to be the cradle of Huxiang Culture.

Changsha people boast to be the best gourmets of China and here people spend a lot of time eating. Xiang Cuisine is one of the eight famous cuisines in China. It has a fine and delicate appearance and a hot & sour taste. It’s heavy and hot taste is an equal competitor to the spicy food of Sichuan.

长沙人自称是中国最好的美食家，在这里人们花很多时间吃饭。湘菜是中国八大菜系之一。外观精美，酸辣味俱佳。它的味道又重又辣，和四川的辛辣食物不相上下。

Street dining and restaurants in the city make every visitor's mouth water. The featured snacks are the 'Stinky Tofu' if you can stand the smell (Note:- At least I can’t. When I visited Wuhan, my wife had no problem while visiting “Food Street”, but I could not stand the overpowering awful smell of Tofu).

城市里的街头餐饮和餐馆让每个游客都流口水。特色小吃是“臭豆腐”，如果你能忍受这种味道(注意：至少我不能。我去武汉的时候，我的妻子在逛“美食街”的时候并没有什么问题，但我实在无法忍受臭豆腐的味道。）

'Sisters'Rice Balls' in Huogongdian (Fire Palace) or the famous spicy shrimps at Nanmenkou and many types of delicious local food won’t disappoint any guests. People of Changsha are known for their acting and have created various traditional folk art performances of their own including the local operas, storytelling, drum opera, acrobatics and other dramatic styles. Everyone can feel their hospitalities and enthusiasm by their vigorous dances.

火宫殿的“姐妹饭团”，南门口有名的麻辣虾仁，还有各种美味的当地食物，不会让客人失望的。长沙人以表演著称，他们创造了自己的各种传统民间艺术表演，包括地方戏剧、故事讲演、鼓乐、杂技和其他戏剧风格。每个人都可以通过他们的舞蹈感受到他们的好客和热情。

Today, most of the entertainment houses in the city present dynamic and entertaining performances featuring a blend of the traditional essence and the modern flare. The neon lights of KTV squares, disco parlors, clubs and dancing squares illuminate the city at night.

the problem with the QQ signing in is because of location set in QQ. I was facing the same problems some times ago. I kept travelling and some times QQ gave me suspicious thingy issue. You may try VPN if your country is not optioned in QQ.

Read this----- a Gujarat village PUNSARI in Himmatnagar can boast of similar progress. The aesthetic architecture does not hide their religious leaning though politically it is not overtly indicative. The class divide that exists between the rural and the urban is quite similar to that of of our own country with classes of people ready to offer sundry low level jobs and the migrants readiness to grab it for a pittance despite avowed goal of an egalitarian society. This is a major challenge to modern developing societies and the way the country like China tackles it without blood - shed will reveal the step they have reached in the ladder of civilization. With enormous modernisation in agriculture, animal husbandry, dairying and pisciculture their self sufficiency has been assured and it is no mean achievement to feed a population of some 1.35 billion !
