NEW DELHI: Two Chinese women were arrested at IGI airport for trying to smuggle out Shahtoosh shawls worth nearly Rs 45 lakh. Customs officials said their action was not only a violation under the Customs Act, but also under the Wildlife Protection Act and Foreign Trade Act, as the shawls were made from the hair of the Tibetan antelope or 'Chiru', which is an endangered Schedule I species, under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.

两名中国女性日前在印度德里甘地国际机场被捕，原因是涉嫌“走私”沙图什(Shahtoosh)披肩。

印度海关官员称，此举不仅违反了海关法，而且违反了野生动物保护法和对外贸易法 。这些披肩是藏羚羊羊毛制成的，而藏羚羊是濒危1级保护动物。

报道称，这些披肩的市场估价约为45万卢比。

The incident took place on Thursday when the two women were intercepted while boarding flight MU 564 to Shanghai. A baggage scan resulted in the discovery of 15 Shahtoosh shawls, worth nearly Rs 45 lakh. "The shawls are made from the hair of chiru, which are endangered globally, making it an offence under the Wildlife Protection Act," said a senior Customs official.

这起事件发生在10月18日，当时两名中国女子准备登上飞往上海的 MU 564航班时被拦截。
